More science reports have confirmed the engineered DNA of the new Corona virus. Earth and societal changes are accelerating at blinding speed on countless fronts, links in the chain of our current reality are already breaking down. In spite of unfolding biosphere collapse, the US stock market has hit yet another record high. How long can normalcy bias be maintained in first world populations? What happens when the gravity and immediacy of all that is unfolding can no longer be hidden from public consciousness? The latest installment of Global Alert News is below.
As the horizon continues to darken, many are choosing to double down on denial and apathy. In contrast, ever increasing numbers are awakening and choosing a path of courage and action toward the greater good. We must never underestimate our collective power if we stand together. All are needed in the critical battle to wake populations to what is coming, we must make every day count. Share credible data from a credible source, make your voice heard.

Sinds my wife arrived home from her parents in der Schweiz, six years ago And Afther she showed me a brochure about geoengineering and the movement " Stop Geoengineering, " of Switserland
.Becouse of that event,… I discouvered Dane Wingington on the internet and ask his friendship and I became more and more active and tell every living soul about Dane and his important mission , to act gainst geoengineering. So I do the same in the seroundings of this city, tell every person of group of people I can reach, and do not forget my Facebook friends, once it was a amount of 4000, now i do not know sinds they block me for ecsesing my own account
I am active in the seroundings of the Central Station and Holland Spoor, the Haque Holland, it's hard to make people understand, I guess , the Gouvernment brainwashed them well ,……..in several way's
I love it, to sucseed, made people understand, show them the aspects how and where to look on the internet and show how to read and watch the sky. Thanks to Dane I can

Hi Dane and Everyone ~
Is there a proper place and time for sharing our GeoEngineering.Watch information? I’ve been encouraged by Brave, Ongoing NC GEW Subscriber, Jonathan O’Quinn, who posts excellent reminders here for all of us to keep circulating materials. I had a chance yesterday to hand out flyers to a dozen or so Air Force ROTC students at the Middle School track, where my little Maltese and I like to exercise. The Coach/Professor might have rejected them but then again? I was unprepared and had none. It was a ‘wakeup call’ for me to order some of the brochures soon. So I will! My thought also is that it’s one thing to help people ‘connect the dots and wake up’, and another to get them to ‘move out of their comfort zones’.
This current Spraying Routine into almost cloudless deep blue sky here in Central North Carolina, is different from months before in that little silver jets can barely be seen producing thin spray trails to hold in the cold air. And it’s awful! It feels like breathing dry ice at ground level. My sinuses are a mess! Hope everyone sent some love and prayers to Mother Earth yesterday. Our planet could use a Valentine!
God bless you I believe your information the bees have been killed by stratospheric aerosol injection for 24 years isnt that relevant info the D o D is paying Raytheon a 64 billion cap company that chinese just stole a laptop of info from a employee while visiting espionage is big for china what can I do to help you make America safe again.
As said, mobile phones and other wireless communications are considered to be able to weaken the immune system. I found an interesting article about Wuhan where the corona or the convid virus was first discovered. It seems that it was one of the first places where China started its 5g network. http://en.hubei.gov.cn/news/newslist/201909/t20190905_1410979.shtml
We got 5g because we're high streets… No septics.. and sewages and homes flooded by local govs inability to handle huge flood waters caused by what??? in this arid land?. Yes the huge cold rains S CA filter through septic tanks and Covid water..Immune from liability. Eat that one. If things weren't such a mess maybe China could grow wheat and potatoes, not scrounge for Bat viral rodents, of African Eboli ground rats served on sticks. Maybe microwaved atmospheres would welcome space sent viruses, and maybe God's mad now. The money tables have been turned over.. and it may take us all, but the guilty parties know who they are.
From Daily Kos: Marie Yovanovitch, the ousted senior diplomat ambassador to Ukraine, recently spoke to the students at Georgetown University. Pay close attention to her recommendation at the end of the excerpt, bolded and in italics for easier identification:
In her first public comments since the impeachment hearings, retired Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch told students at Georgetown University Wednesday that her former employer is currently in a shambles. “Right now, the State Department is in trouble,” she said in an acceptance speech for the Trainor Award, celebrating her decades-long work as a U.S. diplomat. “Senior leaders lack policy vision, moral clarity and leadership.”
Yovanovitch suggested the department's current emphasis on sizing up monetary contributions country by country is both shortsighted and counterproductive to the nation's long-term foreign policy goals. “It’s not about a handout for foreign friends; it’s about enlightened self-interest,” she explained. “For example, it’s hard to see how cutting funds to the World Health Organization in the middle of the coronavirus crisis keeps Americans safer.” Unfortunately, this is the type of concept that requires an explanation under the Trump-era leadership of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Yovanovitch also said some of the current shortcomings were an outgrowth of the "hollowing out" of the department internally, in terms of expertise, institutional knowledge, and personnel. "The policy process has been replaced by the decisions emanating from the top with little discussion," Yovanovitch observed. "Vacancies at all levels go unfilled and officers are increasingly wondering whether it is safe to express concerns about policy, even behind closed doors."
The veteran diplomat also warned that America's current trajectory could leave us isolated as our allies find "more reliable partners.”
“To be blunt: An amoral, keep-'em-guessing foreign policy that substitutes threats, fear and confusion for trust cannot work over the long haul, especially in our social media-savvy, interconnected world," Yovanovitch said. "At some point, the once-unthinkable will become the soon-inevitable: that our allies, who have as much right to act in their own self-interest as we do, will seek out more reliable partners, partners whose interests might not align well with ours."
As dire as her prognosis was, she still chooses to be positive about the future of U.S. diplomacy. "Some people say I'm too optimistic, and that may be, but throwing up our hands is a self-fulfilling prophecy," she said. "In these trying times, optimism is no longer a default setting for many of us—it's a choice."
Yes, throwing up our hands in despair WILL become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Refusing to participate in the democratic process just because you're angry and frustrated with what has become a mess is also not a good choice if you want to see change. Oh, yeah– go ahead, disagree with me all you want, but grow up a little bit, then come back and we'll have that conversation when you're finally mature. In the meantime, KIDS: REALITY IS, CHANGE DEPENDS ON YOU AND THE CHOICES YOU MAKE AND THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE. OR DON'T.

Like most others, Dane, I appreciate immensely your long-term devotion to reporting on these scandalous spraying/weather-modifying operations over our 'land of liberty.' Perhaps the most disturbing part is the total media/family/friends/general public silence on it all. Best wishes from the foothills of New York's Adirondacks to you & yours in Shasta country!

Trump's Budget Plan: A Push for Even Greater Environmental Regression
President Donald Trump has unveiled his budget proposal for the next federal fiscal year, and it's predictably harsh for wildlife and the environment — but great for oil, gas and coal.
Oh, and let's not forget about the nearly $1 trillion in proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare, which came just two days after President Trump promised no changes to those programs.

I listen to Dane's broadcasts due to him being a kindred spirit whose depth of empathy and spirit gives me a bit of bounce each week to keep moving forward. He's a great, worthy soul, and there are certainly others just like him mixed in with the miasma of mediocrity that makes up the vast majority of human beings in these current times.
Well, Sir,

I monitor the weather conditions in sixty cities around the world on a regular basis. On Monday night I was much surprised to see that it was snowing in Baghdad. I immediately suspected that the snow was fake, and sure enough when I checked the temperature, it was 39F. On Tuesday, USA Today carried the story of Baghdad having snow on the ground for only the second time in a century. No mention of the 39F temperature of course.
I call my NM wilderness back yard my cathedral as well and although it's painful to see the changes as you describe, I continue to go on those solo trips because the Presence is still there and it's good to connect. My wish for you is that you can still find that comfort and deep silence in your mountains despite the heartbreak you also encounter there.
Mary, that is a very kind wish for Dane. Your contribution has got me to think a bit more about my own withdraw from trekking out in the wilderness that is 'my' back door neighbor. A point if I may, the "deep silence" you mentioned is one of the hardest things to endure these days out in the wilderness. There should not be "silence". So much is missing out there. Personally, if it were just heartbreak I am facing, that'd be fine. What I and many(including you Mary) feel is shattering the whole self we once knew our selves to be. Even as a little boy, I loved this planet for its gifts and wonder. I've had my mare on a diet all winter so she'll be fit this spring. I haven't sat in a saddle for over 3 years now. I used to live on one. I'm going to call my adventures a "farewell tour". Kind of like saying good bye to old friends. So many are gone already…

The scripted forecast for St Paul, Mn., calls for an almost 50 degree F temperature drop within a day, from Wednesday to Thursday. Since Today- Monday- was normal and clear, tomorrow will be a spray day (partly cloudy). Wednesday is for snow/33 degree F high. Thursday -18 below. Will keep you posted.
Wow!! Now that's "weather whiplash!!"
Seems as though homo sapiens is more inclined to debate the demise of the Dinosaurs than to consider the dimming of the present world now going round about their various schemes and pocket-book activities.
Fake Fog and Kobe
The helicopter crash a few weeks ago which killed Kobe and the others increasingly appears to be weather related (heavy fog) and some pilot error. There is no doubt the fog that day was "artificially enhanced" by spraying ops/ condensation nuclei.
Manipulation of the Marine Cloud Layer is a big part of the Geoengineering of southern CA. For the past three or four weeks we have seen a 7 day "periodicity" with temps peaking on Sat at 80F, followed by a major temp drop Sun/Mon, clouds coming ashore. Even one of the local TV weatherdudes remarked about it the other day. But this has actually been going on for 10 yrs now.
Since when does natural weather operate on a 7 day cycle?
my greetings and good wishes for Dane and family and all the wonderful people that contribute and read on this site, wishes to stay strong, healthy and clear. we are being attacked on all fronts. nothing short of a transformation in human consciousness is needed to see clearly and act correspondingly.
the following is a quote from Bill Gates statements given at a recent conference. he wants to help poor people survive climate change by improving their health"We need to reduce the number of children who become malnourished and improve the odds that people who do suffer from malnutrition survive. That means making sure that people have access not only to the nutrients they need but also to proven interventions like vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics."
Maps (animations) of the Jet Stream, which had been sparse to non-existent or in chunks and pieces for the last several years are now looking like really fat rivers of air.
The day before yesterday some 'weather reader' on the 'overnight news' was excited about the speed of the Atlantic jet stream obtaining 800 miles per hour. Said Reader interjected that he was very excited and had been wanting to see that for a long time. Such a useless waste of space that Reader!
Today, in fact, I read that the high speed jet stream did come to pass.
Somehow I don't think the jet stream ever obtained that speed in the past. Will it blow over those top-heavy cruise ships? Or down aircraft? One might think it just might cause some damage to certain military installations, which could cause some well-deserved problems.
Thinking about geoengineering co-opting the power of Earth's natural systems, this does not bode well. While the weather reader talked about an 800 MPH jet stream, it was actually about 200 MPH. Add that to the speed of a jet plane and it equals 800 MPH. Can you imagine that some rickety air craft might not hold together under a constant overblown jet stream?

My 302nd email, titled: 'Global Climate Chaos within 7 months. Hot and hectic'.
The CO2 readings at Barrow (Alaska) should now be starting to curve over as the 'crest of the wave' is reached – but it is not, the measurements are going up at an even steeper line, almost vertical. The highest reading I can see is about 422.7ppm
No doubt NOAA will start to delete the high readings in order to keep the general public in a docile and obedient state. Their official methane charts are a disgrace of deception, 'no data' and 'QC fail'.
Some recorded temperature highs from last week: Italy 27C, Switzerland 24C, Spain 28C and Antarctica 18C.
Depending on the intensity of the global toxic atmospheric spraying, this spring will be hot and hectic.
Meantime, our politicians are in full swing with distractions and war preparations – as Frank Zappa said "Politics is just the entertainment division of the military Industrial complex".
But hey, do not worry, warmongering Trump is sent by God, according to the US ambassador to Israel, Trump, and many of his so called 'staff'.
Not sure George Carlin would have agreed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dY4WlxO6i0&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0EfMQU_UVS9W8ydLGNwMrl2edLZ3bEMxgR4VCvgonQDVm_MLSRB3mVx2s
Of the high temperature samples given by Andrew, the figures for Antarctica and Switzerland represent the greatest departure from normal. 24C (75.2F) in Switzerland is insanely warm for this time of year. Also, in the Climate Prediction Center forecast for June, July and August, about eighty percent of the United States including Alaska is expected to have above normal temperatures. The Upper Plains and parts of the Midwest are expected to have near normal temperatures. NO PART of the country is forecast to have below normal temperatures. How they know this is beyond me.
My tears are useless if I don't do more. "Thank You Dane!!!"- These words feel shallow in light of what you do every week for all of us. I'll keep informed; it's the very least I can do.Thank you also for sharing your beautiful Choctaw heritage. On my Mom's side is our Cherokee grandma (6 generations), but my mother proudly had her Native American 'card' from Oklahoma. My uncle had mentioned Choctaw also. Now they are all in 'other dimensions' and I feel I must get busier with time shifting everything on 'fast forward'. I am a writer struggling with cataracts and immune deficiency so I've slowed down a bit, but I won't quit. I briefly watched the above You Tube recast of the 'State of the Union' party and I'd say in summary, "If BS was a brass band, it would flush all the way to infected China."! And no one at this gathering looked hungry. Yet!
To ALL, I'd like to share a reply to an email that Maciek sent out to some of us regarding the WHO being banned from face book for being a "dangerous account". It seems a few scientists wrote about the dangers of vaccines on fake book.
Maciek, my friend I have met,
Always glad to receive info from you. This one is alarming to me. Well more than usual I should say(grin). Just so you folks know, email from my 2007 lap top(no mic, no cam) is as electronic as I get. No cell phone and no wifi. I'm hard wired. And if you ask people I knew in the past, they'd agree, but for different reasons(lol). My point is, is I have never had a fake book, twitter or any other kind of "account". From the very beginning I saw it all for what it was/is. Year by year I watched people become detached, separated if you will, from each other. What really boggles my mind is that folks think they are closer. Over my life time I've watched people go from a phone call, that made folks very connected simply because there was a tone to the communication, to thinking a face book post captures the "moment". There's no tangible vibration. Even the pen and paper carry a certain vibration. All that being said, very much so my view is from the outside looking in. I'm well aware of all the "accounts" and channels being taken down or "closed". Something that doesn't get mentioned much anymore is the similarities between the lock down of germany in the 30's and 40's and what we all see playing out this day in age. Same strategy, same game plan. Only the players and the apparatuses are far greater. This time around "they" know what is happening behind every door. To me, it's an unfair advantage. None the less, "we asked for it". We participated in its implementation simply by purchasing said apparatuses. In my opinion, the human race has become spoiled and lost in delusion. Especially the first world nations. The walls are closing in at "blinding speed". Even the controlled weather has continued to go exponential in the amount of damage it is doing to "the face of the earth". A little known fact about concentration camps. Usually people go there under their own power. I've never seen so many "evacuations" "ordered" in my whole life as I've seen in the last few years. Seems like dog training to me, just sayin. We all, those of us "aware ones", will have some serious choices to make in the very near future. The house of cards has already begun to fall. It just doesn't make headlines. Strange as it may seem, I'd like it to fall as fast as building 7. Putting the nuclear plants to sleep first of coarse. I hate that aspect of what we face. It's like playing cards and one of them is the joker replacing a card lost. Biosphere implosion is going exponential to the likes of our worst night mares. I do not enjoy writing those words, but it's the truth. If nothing else, listen to the trees… if they're still alive…
Good night, good day,
Love and strength to ALL,
'a' simple horseman
Hi a simple horseman…They have a new thing the environmentals about how to get carbon underground and to stay there even in the event of fires. I am still for trees but I did want to grow grass, well, grains and grass for nitrogen for my compost. Grasslands, they are saying that grasslands, prairies take in more carbon and that if they burn just the top burns; the CO2 stays below. check it out. 🙂
Jeanette, if only it were that simple for me up here. I wrote last week how my native grasses are all but gone and the sage brush isn't doing so good either. And then there's the Ponderosa. You make a good point about how grasses can and are a good carbon sync. Many native grasses in my region are designed to be burned several times in their life. It used to amaze me how they came back so full and lush the next spring. That isn't the case anymore.
A Simple Horseman, I am so sorry sweetie. You know one thing in all of the drought issues is I never hear anyone complain about…lack of showers and lack of being able to do laundry and shudders upon shudders using their dish washer. In these areas dish washers should be outlawed. I am thinking that people are using these things and watch the pretty water go right down the drain. I would have a greenhouse, or solar distiller set up and water the yard with the distilled water bring back fresh grass, bring back wild life. When I was a kid, I saw little pipes with like a sprinkler fitting on the end and a broken jug over the top of it. all around was the greenest healthiest grass and the rabbits would eat that. It was so healthy because of the pure, transpirated, water coming off of the ground via soil life and from the grass. It starts with the two feet around the glass jug, a perfect untainted world under that glass…

From Geoff Hanham, Northumberland, England
Dane: In the heart of a bad storm in the U.K. some neighbours are hacking out a thick hedge that is home to a small remnant flock of sparrows and a pair of blackbirds – all nesting already due to the climate . . .
Nothing can be done to stop them – we are trying to help the wild-ones but the force of the gale is blowing them out of reach or help.
In reply to our protests we are told that ''they are just messy birds that make a noise'' . . .
What evil insanity is here working amongst humans ?
Billions of years of evolution . . .
And now
Thank you, Geoff, for your understanding heart. It's reassuring to know that another one exists in this world.
Mom and I rent a duplex in an HOA (Homeowners Association). Through a series of deceptive maneuverings, the board decided to hack down 20+ healthy, beautiful trees, each with its own spirit and character, and each fertile and vibrantly alive. Ours hosted parakeets, chickadees, quail, sparrows, mocking birds, and an iridescent lizard, and fed them with little green flower-seeds that were just about ready to burst. We have a birdbath nearby and loved the daily visitations of the birds.
As a renter, I didn't find out about the decision until a week before the scheduled massacre. I gathered information and was going the next morning to the board members to request a stay of execution. I awoke to find our tree already down and all but a few branches and chips of wood gone. By some divine force (or a last loving act by the Spirit of the tree) I'd slept through what would have been the witnessing of a loved one's being tortured and killed. I went outside aghast and told the workers I understood they needed the job, but did they know they'd just killed my dear friend, the lover of birds and lizards? That they were killing beautiful, healthy, LIVING trees?
After they left, I went out and gathered some twigs and then brought out a vase of flowers to where the trunk had been, as on a grave or the site of a fatal accident. I gathered fertile dirt and chips of wood. I hadn't known our tree had such rich, beautiful red wood. It had left red marks on the sidewalk from being dragged, as if it had bled.
Beautiful clover is growing all around without the need to water it. Oh, but those are weeds, and they must be poisoned (we have an organic orange tree in the backyard). The people want grass! We live in the desert.
What an insane world, Geoff. And your story and mine are but two of billions.
More and more I find myself in tears, saying, "I'm sorry. I couldn't save you." How do we heal?
Hello, Christine, thank you for sharing your message, it was heartbreaking. The mindless slaughter of the trees (and the entire web of life) has deeply disturbed me since my earliest memories as a child. Yet, we can and must turn such dispair, angst and anger into fuel to fight on in the critical effort to save the trees that yet live. To fight fot what yet remains of the once thriving web of life. So long as a single tree lives, a single bird, bat, bear, bee, or any other life form, we must fight on in their defense. They have no voice, except for us. Our collective efforts matter in countless ways that non of us can yet fully comprehind, we must never give up. So many of us stand with you in your saddness, Christine, and yet, we can and must continue to march forward in this all important battle at this most critical moment in time. Collectively, we can wield unimagibable power for the greater good, forward into the gathering storm.
I woke up this morning to find that more than 60 videos that I had saved as favorites on the Bing search engine, all had the message `Sorry this video is no longer available`. Several of the videos were documentaries about 9/11.
High dosage intravenously administered vitamin C.
Maybe worth your while researching it.?!
YES!!! Also received this info in email from Sufficient C company…that high dose intravenous vitamin c can be simulated by mouth but it must be taken very, very often! (I actually did this myself to treat shingles but only took 40g before reaching bowel tolerance. I recovered very quickly and had almost no pain.) I do believe this could save lives.

VITAMIN C CURES PNEUMONIA
A POWERFUL SECOND OPINION FOR EVERYONE
BY ANDREW W. SAUL, EDITOR
(OMNS, Sept 12, 2016) Clinical evidence confirms vitamin C's powerful antiviral/antibiotic effect against pneumonia when used in sufficient quantity.
ROBERT F. CATHCART, MD, SUCCESSFULLY TREATED PNEUMONIA WITH UP TO 200,000 MILLIGRAMS OF VITAMIN C DAILY. (1,2) ONE CAN, TO A SIGNIFICANT EXTENT, SIMULATE AN IV OF VITAMIN C BY TAKING IT BY MOUTH VERY, VERY OFTEN. WHEN I HAD PNEUMONIA, IT TOOK 2,000 MG OF VITAMIN C EVERY SIX MINUTES TO GET ME TO SATURATION (BOWEL TOLERANCE). IN THREE HOURS, FEVER WAS REDUCED SEVERAL DEGREES AND COUGHING VIRTUALLY STOPPED. AT AN ORAL DAILY DOSE OF JUST OVER 100,000 MG, COMPLETE RECOVERY TOOK JUST A FEW DAYS.
Treating pneumonia, with massive amounts of vitamin C is not a new idea at all. Board-certified chest specialist Frederick R. Klenner, M.D. routinely used this approach for decades, beginning back in the 1940's. (3) If your doctor believes that vitamin C has merit generally, but that massive doses are ineffective or somehow harmful, he or she will do well to read the doctor's original papers. (4)
"Some physicians would stand by and see their patients die rather than use ascorbic acid. Vitamin C should be given to the patient while the doctors ponder the diagnosis." – Frederick R. Klenner, M.D.
Vitamin C can be used alone or right along with medicines if one so chooses. Prescription drugs are not doing the job. Over 50,000 Americans die from pneumonia each year. There is no question that aggressive use of vitamin C would lower that figure a great deal. And there is no humane excuse for excluding it.

Dear Dane,
You made me cry! Thank you!
I am trying to spread the information about geoengineering within Extinction Rebellion group.
Greetings,
Danuta
Dear Danuta,
I am sure that you know this, but for other folks: 'Extinction Rebellion' is now classified as a 'Terrorist Organisation' within the U.K.
(For after all, do we British 'subjects' not live in a democracy?)
Best wishes,
Geoff
Geoff, says who the terrorists at the helm, the sociopathic ones? I would be flattered if I were Extinction Rebellion. Thank you to them all.
Dane-
Didn't know you were native American. Now, your dedication to these issues makes even more sense to me
Natives were so in touch with mother Earth
What the Europeans did to native Americans was nothing short of genocide. The MOST evil of genocides. Tears well up in my eyes when I read the stories.
Now, I am even more humbled when I listen to your podcasts.
I hope to meet you one day……(maybe this summer)
There's no damage that is beyond the criminal cabal. The capacity for insanity among these psychopaths is unlimited. This is difficult for we empaths to grasp. Malevolent, unconscionable acts are escalating into labyrinthine realms because the psychology behind is capable of it. This is where the the message in the quote becomes clearest and most urgent: "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." Even if all evil were to be quelled in this world, this does not mean that we can rest on our laurels. Evil will always be plotting and scheming, thus the task for good people is never ending. At the moment, though, we are behind the eight ball.
Complete societal collapse IS a mathematical certainty.
If any of us live , It will be miraculous.
Three years… TOPS
The only thing scarier than the environment in free fall,
Is the prevailing attitudes toward it.
I , like you, Dane lost the last fifteen years of my life to the mere fact that I spoke the truth.
I have nothing.
Amd in short order, So shall WE ALL.
Prepare if you can.
Peace,
B
Societal collapse is only a "mathematical certainty" when the sociopathic are permitted at the helm. People have been falling for their flattery and hs/lies for some time. I too have been marginalized but I do not care. I will live and they will die. I would rather be the one with the eyesight, foresight, knowledge and the most likely hood of surviving.
In the name and love of our Mother Earth, Peace to you B
Geoff
I wanted to clarify on having nothing.
I meant material possessions.
I am an extremely fortunate man.
Thanks to All,
B
European Carmakers Sound Alarm Amid Coronavirus Shutdown
Europe’s famed automobile industry has long depended on China. The bloc is the biggest exporter of passenger cars to China, accounting for 53.5% of total Chinese car imports by value. In other direction, Chinese-owned carmakers produced more than 422,000 passenger cars in the EU in 2018, spread across five production plants in Bulgaria, Belgium, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
German carmakers are particularly vulnerable to shifts in the Chinese market. Volkswagen sells more cars in China than in any other country, and Chinese consumers are a similarly core market for BMW and Daimler. The coronavirus outbreak, then, presents a potentially devastating new development for European carmakers.
“The biggest problem in Wuhan is that nobody is buying a car,” Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, told the New York Times, “the Germans have the biggest risk portfolio in China.”
Beyond point-of-sale risks, coronavirus is testing global supply chains– already under strain from US President Trump’s trade feud with Beijing- to their limits. Carmakers are some of the most vulnerable to interruptions in the international flow of goods: automobiles are complex products, made up of any number of precision parts. Many carmakers, like Volvo, are beginning to rely more exclusively on Chinese parts like spare tires, and factory closures in China will soon have global implications.
Factories run by Europe’s Volkswagen, Daimler, Renault and Continental, as well as Japan’s Nissan and American carmakers Tesla and Ford, have all seen auto plants shut down throughout China as part of efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus. Several say they plan to re-open their factories next week- provided they receive approval from Beijing. With the number of cases and death toll continuing to rise, this may be unlikely.
South Korea’s Hyundai, the world’s fifth-largest carmaker, announced this week that it would temporarily halt production lines at factories in South Korea due to shortages of Chinese parts. As the inventories of other manufacturers dwindle, similar announcements from European carmakers should be expected.
“Everybody planned to be down for a week, but nobody planned to be down for a month,” says Dan Hearsch, managing director at automotive and industrial practice AlixPartners, “The manufacturers are concerned about depleting their inventory of parts, but the question is how long is it going to go on? If it becomes six weeks, eight weeks, 10 weeks, that’s a real problem.”
Indeed, executives at several European carmakers this week warned that plants closer to home are mere weeks away from halting production due to disruptions caused by coronavirus. Germany’s Continental, which makes key parts for most major European carmakers, currently relies on 50 sites in China; the firm says it is committed to “minimising any disruptions.”

The Pandemic Isn't Ending, It's Just The Beginning Of Global Disorder & Depression
Charles Hugh Smith / OfTwoMinds blog,
When you've been lied to, you've been betrayed. Betrayal has consequences.
Unsurprisingly, denying the pandemic is unstoppable and consequential is the order of the day: authorities everywhere are terrified these realities might leak through all their oh-so-obviously desperate firewalls and filters. Why are they terrified? Because they know the entire global economy, including the linchpin Chinese and U.S. economies, was extremely fragile before the pandemic arose: why else the panic-stimulus and panic-repo policies of the Federal Reserve and the People's Bank of China in the pre-pandemic months of Q4 2019?
And so everything is covered up, and if that doesn't work, then outright denial is the default policy. The number of cases globally is absurdly understated, the number of deaths in China is absurdly under-reported, and so on.
But the biggest denial campaign is aimed at masking the fragility of the global economy, as the only thing keeping the rickety, speculative-bubble, insolvent global economy from imploding is the belief and confidence of the masses that everything is going swimmingly, so keep on borrowing, borrowing, borrowing, buying, buying, buying and speculating, speculating, speculating.
While the real-world battle to limit the spread of the virus in China gets the headlines, the battle inside your head to maintain your confidence in the system is just as important. Economists talk about recession and depression in quantitative terms: deflation, sales, profits, employment and so on.
The key dynamic in recessions and depressions is confidence: confidence that the condo you buy today will be worth a lot more tomorrow, the business investment you make today will generate higher profits tomorrow, your job benefits will increase tomorrow, your house value will rise tomorrow, and so on.
Once confidence in ever-higher wages, benefits, sales, profits and speculative gains withers, all bets are off. The loss of confidence is akin to a loss of faith or loss of credibility: none of these can be restored overnight. Once your confidence that a speculative gamble will pay off is dashed, you're not going to rush out to make the same gamble tomorrow.
Once your trust in authorities has been shattered by gross incompetence, authoritarian suppression and a laughably unbelievable tsunami of lies, you don't wake up the next morning with your trust in bogus statistics and reassurances fully restored.
Once credibility has been destroyed by an endless parade of fabrications, lies and transparently false reassurances, your faith and trust that what you're being told 24/7 is actually true is not magically restored.
Loss of confidence, trust, faith and credibility are self-reinforcing. Once you realize your speculative gamble is not just no longer going up but it's crashing, you want out, not in. Once you see your neighbors going broke, you shut down your business before you lose everything.
Confidence doesn't just evaporate; it's replaced by uncertainty, anxiety and fear. Better safe than sorry becomes the implicit context: better to close now than gamble on a magical-thinking return to normalcy tomorrow. Better to go back to the ancestral village now rather than risk going back to work and becoming a victim of the "no big deal, just another flu" who ends up dead as a result of trusting the authorities' reassurances.
The tragic irony is that Chinese authorities hid the epidemic to save political face, but their increasingly transparent lies and desperation are destroying what little international credibility remained after their attempt to save political face blew up. Rather than saving face, they've lost the last shreds of credibility they still possessed.
As for the Chinese people: how does it feel to know that the political optics matter so much more than your health and well-being?
Quarantining 400 million people in China still leaves a reservoir of 1 billion people in hundreds of small cities and towns and thousands of villages who may catch the virus from people who returned home from cities before they were locked down.
