Just was reminded of the other huge reason why spraying cannot possibly save us from global warming: it is killing the trees!
Again, great show. I usually dislike shows that take callers, but in this case, not only are the callers obviously informed and caring, but hearing them makes it clear that we are all in this together, and that feeling is necessary given the enormity of the problem.

Great show, as always! I didn't catch the name of the first caller, the one who asked if geoengineering wasn't (in Guy M's mind, at least) better than letting runaway warming take over. Could be wrong, but I thought the problem there (looking away from non-disclosure) was that the spraying actually increases warming. Not only do the layers of haze hold in long-wavelength radiation, but the lens effec,t about which Dana talks frequently, makes the sun's rays hotter. Destruction of the ozone layer has let in extremely high-energy UV light, which can only cause more trouble – and that's from spraying more than any other cause, apparently. And there must be a huuuge increase in release of greenhouse gases from all this added air traffic. And wasn't there something about the decrease in ocean circulation making the oceans incapable of absorbing CO2? I thought that Canfield ocean meant Dead Earth for millennia. I know I'm forgetting something here, but haven't time to check right now. Anyway, my impression was that spraying is only making everything worse, and not just in terms of human health.
At any rate, all the geoengineering in the world cannot stop runaway warming, and McPherson knows that. Does he – or anyone – really believe that a year or two more of a sickness-plagued, poisoned life is better than trying to restore a bit of quality to our remaining years? That is pretty par for the course nowadays, I suppose; people in many countries now live in a "quantity, not quality" society. But to me it seems insane.
Ultimately, in my opinion, the problem is pollution of all forms. Humans have shown unthinkable hubris and negligence toward the planet that allowed them to enjoy life in the first place. It's time to admit we are not gods. Time to stop spraying poisons on our mother.
