I’d had the same thought while pasting that piece, so I did a search for Jane Burgermeister because evidently she’s the best informed person on the sinister WHO. Please see second below her exchanges (arranged chronologically) with one of the key WHO scoundrels. Also I came across another quite interesting comment on WHO–and it’s directly below.

Is the Ebola scare preparation for a big false flag? This is a good time to talk biowarfare with Dr. Garth Nicolson of the Institute for Molecular Medicine, one of the leading “white hat” experts!
Listener Anne Sullivan writes:
“Please put ALL of your attention on the false flag Ebola unfolding now because it is tied to martial law, the death of millions and the take over of the US.
“All they have to do is declare a level 6 pandemic emergency which they are laying out the false impression of now, and the UN and WHO, along with FEMA and DHS take control of the country and the Constitution is suspended. They have FEMA boxcars with Guillotines made in China at the front of them and Obamacare includes a section on death by execution that lists death by guillotine (as well as by torture but they don’t use that word). The pandemic laws on the books in each state are martial law, and it’s clear that Massachusetts law (and likely all of them) include the seizure of all transportation, all communication, all utilities, all industry, all farms, all food, clothing, property, etc. and Bush’s orders include forced human labor. The laws also include immunity for any deaths or seizure of property or false imprisonment. Here’s a small sample.”
Professor Garth L. Nicolson is the President, Chief Scientific Officer and Research Professor at the Institute for Molecular Medicine in Huntington Beach, California. Born in 1943 in Los Angeles, Dr. Nicolson received his B.S. in Chemistry from University of California at Los Angeles in 1965 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California at San Diego in 1970. He is currently Professor of Integrative Medicine at Capitol University of Integrative Medicine and a Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle (Australia).

Billy Hayes Worked on HAARP in Alaska – C6 at Eglin AFB
Posted by Rusty Featured, HAARP, NWO Friday, October 3rd, 2014
This blog is dedicated to the massive amount of information Billy has which will help reveal the truth, expose the lies and wake up the deceived as we each connect more dots. He and his father both worked on HAARP in Alaska and on C6 at Eglin AFB in Florida years ago. As a result, whenever HAARP ramps up, he has a seizure. The night of Japan’s earthquake, Billy experienced 4 seizures and was hospitalized March 11-15, 2011.

US Navy involved:
Weather Warfare Assault on California Intensifies
geoengineeringwatch.orgThe climate engineers continue to hammer California with record heat and drought. Meteorologically speaking, maps like the one below are historically unprecedented. This is what climate engineering can do, fry one location while temporarily cooling another. The geoengineers can and are continuing to cook California under a virtual target of heat and drought. Meteorologists have coined the term “ridiculously resilient ridge” to describe the engineered HAARP-induced high pressure that is being kept locked in place over the West. Are maps like the one below also meant to send a message with their bullseye of blazing heat centered exactly over the once golden state like a target? Let’s keep this in mind, the NOAA mapping is done by the private defense industry contractor Raytheon who is major player in the ongoing climate engineering nightmare. Those who are controlling the weather then issue maps like the one below that tell us all what they have “scheduled” for us . The unprecedented heat and drought is yet again scheduled for the western US is indicated by the map below, this continuous scenario is completely engineered and unnatural. In addition to systematically destroying the biosphere and contaminating all life with highly toxic metals, we should also consider this: the already operational global spraying network could be used to spread a deadly pathogen any time the power structure wishes to do so. Who can stop them when the public is even now generally unaware of geoengineering and the atmospheric spraying?
Below is the latest NOAA map for October showing even more intensified heat and drought scheduled for the already decimated state of California.
EACH TIER OF COLOR INDICATES APPROXIMATELY A 3 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE, ABOVE OR BELOW NORMAL
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Those with the courage to help change this equation will get off the bench and help to sound the alarm about the totally engineered nature of the California Drought cataclysm and the spraying in general. California is currently a very prime location to start an avalanche of awareness in regard to the climate engineering as people there can no longer ignore what is unfolding around them. Use the links posted below to further educate yourself on the ongoing engineered drought and then help with the effort to educate others in California that don’t yet understand what is happening. Two of the links below identify some of the most impacted towns and cities. Those of us in the fight need all the help we can get to identify various agencies, organizations, and individuals that live in these impacted areas, and then to send them an email “heads up” of credible information on the geoenginering issue. The “flaming arrow” link below can be used for such mail outs and is all set to go with an introduction letter and informational links. The more people that help us in this effort, the better our chances of starting a “spot fire” of awareness that can not be put out. The more spot fires we start in various locations, the more likely these individual fires are to burn together into a giant blaze of awareness that can not be extinguished. All of this effort can be done from any home computer without any expense other than time spent. Please help us to sound the alarm, every day matters.

Where we are – A climate system summary
AirThe presence of GHGs (greenhouse gases) in the atmosphere are vital to sustain life on our planet. These GHGs trap heat and keep the global average surface temperature of the planet at about 15 degrees C, versus a chilly -18 degrees C which would be our temperature without the GHGs.
We have changed the chemistry of the atmosphere, specifically of the concentrations of the GHGs. Concentrations of carbon dioxide have increased about 40% since the start of the industrial revolution (from a tight range between 180 to 280 ppm over at least the last million years) to 400 ppm. Concentrations of methane have increased by more than 2.5x since the start of the industrial revolution (from a tight range of 350 to 700 ppb) to over 1800 ppm. The additional heat trapped has warmed our planet by over 0.8°C over the last century, with most of that rise (0.6°C) occurring in the last 3 or 4 decades.
Oceans
Over 90% of the heat trapped on the surface of the planet is increasing the temperature of the ocean water. The increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere acidify the rainfall, and have increased the acidity of the oceans by about 40% in the last 3 to 4 decades (pH of the open ocean has dropped from 8.2 down to 8.05 on the logarithmic scale). An increased drop to a pH of 7.8 will prevent calcium based shells from forming, and threaten the entire food chain of the ocean. Changes in ocean currents, and vertical temperature profiles are leading to more stratification and less overturning which is required to transport nutrients to the surface for phytoplankton to thrive.
Global sea levels are presently rising at a rate of 3.4 mm per year, compared to a rate of about 2 mm per year a few decades ago. Melt rates on Greenland have doubled in the last 4 to 5 years, and melt rates on the Antarctica Peninsula have increased even faster. Based on the last several decades, melt rates have had a doubling period of around 7 years or so. If this trend continues, we can expect a sea level rise approaching 7 meters by 2070.
From: More than 2.5 m sea level rise by 2040 |
Land
Higher global average temperatures have increased the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere by about 4% over the last several decades, and around 6% since the start of the industrial revolution. Changes in heat distribution with latitude from uneven heating with latitude has slowed the jet streams and caused them to become wavier and fractured, and has changed the statistics of weather. We now have higher frequencies, intensities, and longer duration extreme weather events and also a change in location of where these events occur.
Feedback loops
The sensitivity of the climate system to increased levels of GHG appears to be much higher than previously expected due to many powerful reinforcing feedbacks.
From: Arctic Warming due to Snow and Ice Demise |
Arctic temperature amplification from exponentially declining sea ice and spring snow cover are the strongest feedbacks in our climate system today. The average albedo (reflectivity) of the Arctic region has decreased from 52% to a present day value of 48% over 3 or 4 decades. The increased absorption of energy in the Arctic has increased the temperature at high latitudes at rates up to 6 to 8x the global average temperature change. The reduced temperature difference between the Arctic and equator has reduced the west to east speed of the jet streams causing them to slow and become wavier and more fractured, and directly causing a large change in the statistics of our global weather.
Methane gas emissions have been rapidly rising in the Arctic region from the terrestrial permafrost and the continental shelf marine sediments, most notably on the ESAS (Eastern Siberia Arctic Shelf). The extremely potent ability of methane to warm the planet (global warming potential GWP is >150, 86, and 34 times for methane relative to carbon dioxide on a few year, several decade, and century timescale, respectively) makes increased emissions an extremely dangerous risk to our well-being on the planet.
My overall assessment
Our climate system is presently undergoing preliminary stages of abrupt climate change. If allowed to continue, the planet climate system is quite capable of undergoing an average global temperature increase of 5°C to 6°C over a decade or two. Precedence for changes at such a large rate can be found at numerous times in the paleo-records. From my chair, I conclude that it is vital that we slash greenhouse gas emissions and undergo a crash program of climate engineering to cool the Arctic region and keep the methane in place in the permafrost and ocean sediments.
Record June–August Global Ocean Surface Temperature
August 2014 record high land and ocean temperature
The combined average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces for August 2014 was record high for the month, at 0.75°C (1.35°F) above the 20th century average of 15.6°C (60.1°F).
June–August 2014 record high land and ocean temperature
June–August 2014, at 0.71°C (1.28°F) higher than the 20th century average, was the warmest such period across global land and ocean surfaces since record keeping began in 1880.
The August global sea surface temperature (SST) was 0.65°C (1.17°F) above the 20th century average of 16.4°C (61.4°F). This record high departure from average not only beats the previous August record set in 2005 by 0.08°C (0.14°F), but also beats the previous all-time record set just two months ago in June 2014 by 0.03°C (0.05°F).
The June–August global ocean surface temperature was 0.63°C (1.13°F) above the 20th century average, the highest on record for June–August. This beats the previous record set in 2009 by 0.04°C (0.07°F).
This was the warmest August on record, primarily due to very high Sea Surface Temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere.
There is no El Nino event in this period, but some sort of event – hopefully an event not a climate shift – is taking place. If this is an event, the situation will become more normal when it ends, which will be in less than a years time at worst. If it is a climate shift, we are in desperate trouble, though I think it is an event.
It is worth noting that these very high Sea Surface Temperatures are likely to lead to high land temperatures soon, as normally land temperatures in the Northern hemisphere can be expected to exceed Sea Surface Temperatures.
The drought affecting California and the whole of the west of North America, Central America, and large parts of the Brazilian rainforest, though preceding this event was almost certainly down to changes which started before this event but ultimately caused it.
Despite the record high combined average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces for August, the global economy will continue as normal and no specific action can be expected to be taken to curb emissions. This will change, if global temperatures continue to rise. Temperatures are high enough to cause global concern, however. More later.
Note: NOAA’s most recient prediction puts the chance of El Niño at 60-65% during the Northern Hemisphere fall and winter.

“Genetic Strains of Ebola that have Never been Seen Before”. Media Lies and US Government Coverup
Here, we’ll quickly review a few very weighty MSM/U.S. Government Ebola lies before discussing what may be the most dangerous Ebola lie yet, which involves the risk of false negative Ebola tests. The lies in the next few paragraphs are mentioned in this article primarily because they might intersect in disconcerting ways with the false negative problem—a problem the CDC and MSM would rather lie about and pretend does not exist.
The current outbreak (which actually began on or before December, 2013) presents genetic strains of Ebola that have never been seen before. The Guinea variant of Ebola was itself novel enough to form its own clade. Now, via Recombinomics and with respect to Sierra Leone, we have:
“The June Sierra Leone sequences have evidence of some drift from the March sequences from Guinea. A prior Zaire sub-clade, which was found in apes and a chimpanzee and was associated with an outbreak in Gabon in 2002 had strong evidence of recombination, which raises concerns of more evolution in the current sub-clade, which has produced a record number of reported Ebola cases and deaths.”
It is curious indeed that the Ruling Class seems uninterested in broaching, to its serfs, the possibility that these genetic alterations might be causally related to the current outbreak’s dramatically higher fatality counts and, evidently, higher contagion probability. As to whether the novel viral genotypes might signify that Ebola is now airborne, the CDC continues to insist that the only ones who think it might be airborne are paranoid tinfoil hat wearers—although the United Nations has uttered the heresy that even if Ebola isn’t airborne now, it soon might be regardless of its causal origins.
And then we have the incessantly repeated reckless claim that it is impossible for asymptomatic carriers to transmit Ebola. Who can say this with complete confidence given that we have novel genetic variants of Ebola in play? Furthermore, any scientist who is remotely competent will observe that asymptomatic transmission cannot possibly be completely ruled out regardless of the fact that we are dealing with new variants—simply because there can never be enough cases to statistically eliminate small probabilities of asymptomatic transmission. The only scientific question on this issue is whether such probabilities are so small that they can be considered negligible from a practical standpoint—and, right now, we don’t have a tremendous amount of cases at this point to base our conclusions on anyway.
Let’s pivot now to the Ebola test false-negative problem. False-negative results, of course, occur when tests indicate the absence of a condition even though the condition is in fact present. For many reasons (including human perceptual and cognitive errors), no test offers 100% accuracy in this respect or any other. Therefore, there is always some risk that tests returning negative results for Ebola are wrong. The U.S. Department of Defense has spoken to this issue with reference to the Ebola Zaire variant it says was detected in the current outbreak in West Africa:
“If this test is negative, does that mean that I do not have Ebola Zaire infection?
Most, but not all, people with Ebola Zaire infection will have a positive test. Therefore, if your test is negative, something else may be responsible for your illness. There is a small chance that this test can give a negative result that is wrong (called a false negative) meaning you could possibly still have an Ebola Zaire infection even though the test is negative. Therefore, while a negative test most likely means you do not have an Ebola Zaire infection, your health care provider must consider the test result together with all other aspects of your illness (such as symptoms, possible exposures, and geographical location) in deciding how to treat you.”
So, suppose, for example, that the “small chance” of an Ebola false negative rate is 1%. It’s bad enough that many will then jump to the conclusion that such a result indicates that there is a 99% chance that the negative result indicates absence of the disease, so let’s show why that construal is wrong.
It is true that, given a 1% false negative rate, the true positive rate is 99%. This is because the true positive rate is the complement of the false negative rate. But all a 99% true positive rate says is that positive test results capture 99% of cases that are in fact positive.
The Ebola-related practical concern addressed in this article is that a 99% true positive rate (also referred to as 99% “sensitivity”), which speaks to what might be informally called the “accuracy” ofpositive test results, does not really say much about the probability that a negative test result should be believed. To generate that probability, the false negative rate must be combined with the prior probability that the person tested is not afflicted (which of course is by definition the complement of the probability that they are afflicted) with the illness as well as with the true negative rate, which is the probability of negative results when persons are actually negative. This is the sort of thingBayes’ Theorem does.
The “prior probability” is estimated on the basis of whatever information pertaining to the likelihood of Ebola infection exists before tests are administered. These are factors such as “symptoms, possible exposures, and geographical location” as the U.S. Department of Defense properly indicates (and isn’t it interesting that a military wing of the U.S. government admits the problem, while the civilian CDC lies by omission). As the application of Bayes’ Theorem makes clear, the significance of a negative test result varies in terms of its practical significance with the prior probability of Ebola affliction, which means that if the prior probability of affliction is high enough in particular cases, people shouldn’t feel comfortable even if the risk of false negative tests is very low and negative test results do a very good job of capturing those cases that are in fact negative.
What this means is simply that, particularly in view of scores on factors such as friendship and social networks, having lived in and travelled from hot zones might imply that negative Ebola tests applied to such persons have very little significance—especially when cases are viewed in the aggregate. When one puts this together with the reality that negative test results will often result in the release of persons who may well be infected into civil society, the extraordinary danger we face is obvious—the more so, again, if we keep hearing smiley-faced CDC/MSM stories about bunchesof negative test results.
Let’s wrap up by synthesizing this conclusion with the U.S. Government/MSM lies noted at the outset. The lies mentioned at the beginning of the article were included because each interacts with the prospect of potentially widespread false negatives in harrowing ways. So, for example, all else equal, greater contagion potential suggests greater potential for false negative test results. And, clearly, all else equal the prospect of airborne contagion implies the same thing. Furthermore, it is even possible that the novel Ebola strains are such that false negative results are more likely than they were before.
But, even if none of these things is true, the more negative tests we hear about, the more confident we can be that at least one of them is false. At some point, a threshold will be passed beyond which we can be very confident indeed that someone who is in fact positive has nonetheless been released into civil society on the basis of an erroneous test result.
Viewed together, all of the above suggests that thoughtful observers should be on the lookout for CDC/MSM lies and/or nondisclosures regarding specific biographical details about persons who test negative—because these are what inform prior probability estimates.

Obama’s “War on Ebola” or War for Oil? Sending 3000 Troops to African “Ebola” Areas That Happen to Export Oil to China
For a Nobel Peace Prize President, Barack Obama seems destined to go down in history books as the President who presided over one of the most aggressive series of wars ever waged by a bellicose Washington Administration. Not even George Bush and Dick Cheney came close.
First, before the ink was even dry on his Nobel Prize certificate, Obama announced the Afghanistan “surge”, pouring another 30,000 US military into that destroyed part of the world. Then came Obama’s war against Libya’s Qaddafi, followed rapidly by his war to try to topple Syria’s Bashar al Assad. Soon after came Obama’s “war for democracy in Ukraine,” otherwise better called Obama’s attempt to provoke Russia into a new war confrontation with NATO by backing a gaggle of Ukrainian oligarchs, criminals and outright neo-nazis in Kiev. In July of this year, Obama’s Administration was pushing the President to launch a second try at bombing Syria back to the Stone Age, allegedly to destroy ISIS, a looney Jihadist Sunni sect that was said to be a joint venture of the CIA and Israeli intelligence.
Now Obama’s advisers, no doubt led by the blood-thirsty National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, have come up with a new war. This is the War Against Ebola. On September 16, President Obama solemnly declared the war. He announced, to the surprise of most sane citizens, that he had ordered 3,000 American troops, the so-called “boots on the ground” that the Pentagon refuses to agree to in Syria, to wage a war against….a virus?
In a carefully stage-managed appearance at the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Obama read a bone-chilling speech. He called the alleged Ebola outbreaks in west Africa, “a global threat, and it demands a truly global response. This is an epidemic that is not just a threat to regional security. It’s a potential threat to global security, if these countries break down, if their economies break down, if people panic,” Obama continued, conjuring images that would have made Andromeda Strain novelist Michael Chrichton drool with envy. Obama added, “That has profound effects on all of us, even if we are not directly contracting the disease. This outbreak is already spiraling out of control.”
With that hair-raising introduction, the President of the world’s greatest Superpower announced his response. In his role as Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America announced he has ordered 3,000 US troops to west Africa in what he called, “the largest international response in the history of the CDC.” He didn’t make clear if their job would be to shoot the virus wherever it reared its ugly head, or to shoot any poor hapless African suspected of having Ebola. Little does it matter that the US military doesn’t have anywhere near 3,000 troops with the slightest training in public health.
Before we all panic and line up to receive the millions of doses of untested and reportedly highly dangerous “Ebola vaccines” the major drug-makers are preparing to dump on the market, some peculiarities of this Ebola outbreak in Africa are worth noting.
Certified Ebola Deaths?
The World Health Organization, under the Director, Dr Margaret Chan, in a press conference on September 13, sounded the alarm, warning that Ebola in west Africa was surging out of control. “In the three hardest hit countries, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the number of new patients is moving far faster than the capacity to manage them,” Chan claimed. WHO claims that almost half of 301 health-care workers dealing with alleged Ebola patients have themselves died, and that 2,400 people out of 4,784 cases in Africa have died of Ebola. On August 8, Chan declared the African Ebola situation a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern,” whatever that is supposed to mean.
A major problem for Chan and her backers, however, is that her Ebola statistics are very, very dubious. For those whose memory is short, this is the same Dr Margaret Chan at WHO in Geneva who was guilty in 2009 of trying to panic the world into taking unproven vaccines for “Swine Flu” influenza, by declaring a Global Pandemic with statistics calling every case of symptoms that of the common cold to be “Swine Flu,” whether it was runny nose, coughing, sneezing, sore throat. That changed WHO definition of Swine Flu allowed the statistics of the disease to be declared Pandemic. It was an utter fraud, a criminal fraud Chan carried out, wittingly or unwittingly (she could be simply stupid but evidence suggests otherwise), on behalf of the major US and EU pharmaceutical cartel.
In a recent Washington Post article it was admitted that sixty-nine percent of all the Ebola cases in Liberia registered by WHO have not been laboratory confirmed through blood tests. Liberia is the epicenter of the Ebola alarm in west Africa. More than half of the alleged Ebola deaths, 1,224, and nearly half of all cases, 2,046, have been in Liberia says WHO. And the US FDA diagnostic test used for the lab confirmation of Ebola is so flawed that the FDA has prohibited anyone from claiming they are safe or effective. That means, a significant proportion of the remaining 31 % of the Ebola cases lab confirmed through blood tests could be false cases.
In short, no one knows what 1,224 Liberians in recent weeks have died from. But WHO claims it to be Ebola. Note that the countries affected by the Ebola alarm are among the poorest and most war-torn regions in the world. Wars over blood diamonds and colonial genocidal tribal wars have left a devastated, mal-nourished population in its wake.
WHO’s official fact sheet on Ebola, which now they renamed EVD for Ebola Virus Disease, claims, “The first EVD outbreaks occurred in remote villages in Central Africa, near tropical rainforests, but the most recent outbreak in west Africa has involved major urban as well as rural areas…” WHO further notes that, “It is thought that fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are natural Ebola virus hosts. Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest.”
Then the official WHO Ebola Fact Sheet dated September, 2014, states, “It can be difficult to distinguish EVD from other infectious diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever and meningitis.”
Excuse me, Dr Margaret Chan, can you say that slowly? It can be difficult to distinguish EVD from other infectious diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever and meningitis? And you admit that 69% of the declared cases have never been adequately tested? And you state that the Ebola symptoms include “sudden onset of fever fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, symptoms of impaired kidney and liver function, and in some cases, both internal and external bleeding”?
In short it is all the most vague and unsubstantiated basis that lies behind President Obama’s new War on Ebola.
War on Ebola or War for Oil?
One striking aspect of this new concern of the US President for the situation in Liberia and other west African states where alleged surges of Ebola are being claimed is the presence of oil, huge volumes of untapped oil.
The offshore coast of Liberia and east African ‘Ebola zones’ conveniently map with the presence of vast untapped oil and gas resources shown here
The issue of oil in west Africa, notably in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea have become increasingly strategic both to China who is roaming the world in search of future secure oil import sources, and the United States, whose oil geo-politics was summed up in a quip by then Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in the 1970’s: ‘If you control the oil, you control entire nations.’
The Obama Administration and Pentagon policy has continued that of George W. Bush who in 2008 created the US military Africa Command or AFRICOM, to battle the rapidly-growing Chinese economic presence in Africa’s potential oil-rich countries. West Africa is a rapidly-emerging oil treasure, barely tapped to date. A US Department of Energy study projected that African oil production would rise 91 percent between 2002 and 2025, much from the region of the present Ebola alarm.
Chinese oil companies are all over Africa and increasingly active in west Africa, especially Angola, Sudan and Guinea, the later in the epicenter of Obama’s new War on Ebola troop deployment.
If the US President were genuine about his concern to contain a public health emergency, he could look at the example of that US-declared pariah Caribbean nation, Cuba. Reuters reports that the Cuban government, a small financially distressed, economically sanctioned island nation of 11 million people, with a national budget of $50 billion, Gross Domestic Product of 121 billion and per capita GDP of just over $10,000, is dispatching 165 medical personnel to Africa to regions where there are Ebola outbreaks. Washington sends 3,000 combat troops. Something smells very rotten around the entire Ebola scare.
Florida Hit with Highest Level of Radioactive Material from Fukushima Outside Japan
Analysis of data from sensitive U.S. monitoring stations for the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear reactor accident, Journal of Environmental Radioactivity: [A] major nuclear event at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power station… resulted in a breach of the nuclear fuel integrity and release of radioactive fission products to the environment. Fission products started to arrive in the United States via atmospheric transport on March 15, 2011… Atmospheric activity concentrations of 131I reached levels of 3 x 10^- 2 Bq/m ³ [30,592 microBq/m³] in Melbourne, FL. The noble gas 133Xe reached atmospheric activity concentrations in Ashland, KS of 17 Bq/m³… [These levels] were well above the detection capability of the radionuclide monitoring systems within the International Monitoring System [IMS] of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty [CTBTO]… it should be noted that non-IMS stations located in Richland, WA detected the event one day earlier than any other systems within the US IMS network… The iodine detections reported in this manuscript are solely representative of the particulate iodine atmospheric activity concentration. It is recognized that the gas phase iodine was not collected via aerosol filtration [which] would be useful to assess the event and to quantify the total radioiodine atmospheric activity concentration.
According to remarks included with CTBTO data recently released by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, the total iodine-131 in the air was up to 500% of the amount shown.
CTBTO Particulate air monitoring data (.xls file), July 2014: The PTS [Provisional Technical Secretariat] itself issued a number of comments and caveats on the data:… “Since the IMS stations use paper filters to collect the particulate radionuclides in the air, part of the iodine in gaseous form passes through the filter easily. It is estimated that only 20-50% of total iodine (from all forms) was collected in the samples.”
Of the more than 1,500 measurements in the CTBTO data taken since Fukushima began, iodine-131 levels detected in Florida were the highest of anywhere in the world outside of Japan. Florida also recorded 4 of the top 10 daily measurements.
Before the U.N. made this data public, an ENENews report from April 2011 noted that for the specific date of March 22, Florida recorded the highest I-131 level of any CTBTO monitoring station in the world. See: Melbourne, Florida had highest iodine-131 reading of any CTBTO monitoring station in the world from March 22-23 (CHART)

Hong Kong’s Politics: If not Beijing’s Business, Surely not Washington’s
The so-called “Occupy Central” movement has been so utterly exposed as foreign meddling, that even stalwart supporters of the protests have had to admit US-cash, political, and media support is irrefutably driving the unrest. As is the nature of humanity, pride has overridden the many good intentions, principles, and ideals of ordinary “Occupy Central” supporters, transforming the movement from idealistic but misled, to spiteful and vindictive.
While these protesters were brave enough to stand up to injustices they perceived Beijing was imposing upon them, they now find themselves incapable of summoning similar courage to confront the injustices their own protest leaders have committed – including deceiving them about their agenda, their allegiances, and their sponsors.
In the wake of the truth, many “Occupy Central” supporters have deferred to increasing levels of cognitive dissonance and after adamantly denying US involvement, have invented a myriad of implausible explanations as to why US meddling in China is now apparently “ok.”
Denial and Delusions
The initial response to evidence that the US, not the people of Hong Kong, is driving the “Occupy Central” movement through a handful of deeply compromised politicians, media moguls, and protest leaders, is denial. Supporters will outright deny that the US is funding or supporting the protests in any shape, form, or way precisely because they believe that it is a movement of the Hong Kong people. by them, and for them.
However, denial doesn’t last because the evidence is simply overwhelming. “Occupy Central” leaders were literally sitting in Washington D.C. earlier this year scripting the unrest verbatim side by side with the US State Department’s National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, and US Vice President Joseph Biden among others. As part of ”Why Democracy in Hong Kong Matters” event hosted by NED, Martin Lee and Anson Chan were both in front of an audience representing immense Western corporate-financier and political interests, laying the groundwork for “Occupy Central” and openly begging Washington for support.
Other leaders such as Benny Tai, Audrey Eu, Jimmy Lai, Jospeh Zen, and Joshua Wong were implicated by both the NED’s own documented support for the various organizations they are participants in, or by fellow “Occupy Central” leaders themselves.
After denial comes acceptance – but coupled with delusions. After adamantly denying US involvement in the “Occupy Central” movement specifically because of the negative implications it implies, upon seeing irrefutable evidence that indeed the US is driving the unrest, supporters attempt to claim that the US is simply “supporting democracy” and that there is nothing suspicious or negative about that at all. The delusions deepen when confronted with examples of other US campaigns aimed at “promoting democracy,” such as in Syria, Libya, Iraq, or Ukraine, now embroiled in destructive perpetual violence, division, and chaos and exposed as naked imperial conquest.
Self-Determination: If not Beijing’s Business, Surely not Washington’s
Ultimately, these delusions conflict with and are diametrically opposed to the many good intentions genuine “Occupy Central” protesters began with – the notion that the people of Hong Kong should decide for themselves their own destiny and reject interference from beyond their territory. While they have been insidiously led to believe Beijing is their only threat, the fact is Washington too, from thousands of miles away, seeks to impose its will, agenda, and interests upon the people of Hong Kong and direct their destiny.
Even many of the overt slogans and talking points articulated by Martin Lee and Anson Chan in Washington earlier this year, then repeated verbatim by “Occupy Central” protest leaders over recent weeks, do not add up to the expectations and intentions of the average “Occupy Central” supporter. In essence, the leadership of “Occupy Central” seem to be defending above all else, the parting demands made by the British as they handed over Chinese territory they had occupied for 142 years. Beijing has no obligation to respect or recognize demands made by a foreign power that had illegally occupied its territory. For “Occupy Central’s” leadership to insist otherwise is the behavior of foreign agents protecting a racket their interests are tied to, not a genuine movement seeking sovereignty and self-determination.
For the “Occupy Central” leadership to insist Beijing honor demands made by parting imperialists, reveals their true allegiance – not to their nation of China, nor their home of Hong Kong, but foreign interests who have for centuries sought to exercise dominion over China and its vast territory, as well as all that rests within China’s traditional spheres of influence.
If “Occupy Central” believes Hong Kong’s political present and future is the business of the people of Hong Kong and not Beijing, then surely they understand such matters are certainly not Washington’s business either. The fact that Washington is so heavily invested in “Occupy Central’s” leadership absolutely contradicts the principles the movement is predicated upon – a fact genuine protesters must reckon with.
Genuine Protesters Must Denounce Compromised “Occupy Central” Leadership
For genuine “Occupy Central” supporters, there is absolutely no shame in searching for the truth, nor falling into any of the pitfalls that lie along the way. There is shame however, in falling into one of these pitfalls – by following compromised, criminal leaders with sedition in their hearts and foreign cash in their hands – and then convincing oneself that such a pitfall is somehow still “progress.” It is human to fall, it is human to feel embarrassed, but it is also human to rise above our petty pride and pursue the truth no matter what the personal cost.
Image: Attempts to claim that the US through NED are simply seeking to “promote democracy” fall short when considering the immense, exploitative, corporate-financier interests represented by NED’s board of directors (pictured above). It is difficult to believe that Boeing, Ford, McDonald’s Exxon, Goldman Sachs, and others care about “democracy” and not simply a new way to sell their global hegemonic ambitions for greater power and wealth.

Mexico mass grave discovered after student protesters go missing
A mass grave has been found on the outskirts of Iguala, in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, where 43 students went missing on September 27 following a protest to support the rights of rural teachers.
Authorities are conducting forensic examinations of “up to 20” charred remains discovered on Saturday in an effort to determine if they are the remains of the students, Guerrero Attorney General Inaky Blanco told reporters in Iguala on Saturday.

The disappearance of the students came after police opened fire on buses carrying the protesters, killing six people. Twenty-two police officers are being held for questioning following the spate of violence, while arrest warrants have been posted for the mayor of Iguala, Jose Luis Albarca and his security chief.

Blanco, who arrived at the site in the presence of a heavy security detail, did not disclose the exact number of bodies or graves unearthed.
“In the next few hours we will determine the cause of death and the number of bodies,” a spokesman for the state attorney general’s office said.
About a dozen individuals have seen reemerged after going into hiding with friends and family following the brutal police crackdown.
Authorities put the number of those killed across Mexico since 2007 due to gang-related violence at about 100,000 people.
British Politicians to Face Criminal Investigation Over Scottish Referendum
by Mark Hirst
Police in Scotland will formally investigate allegations that anti-Scottish independence campaigners breached electoral law during the referendum held on September 18.
“We can confirm that Crown counsel has instructed Police Scotland to commence an investigation into alleged breaches of Schedule 7, Paragraph 7, of the Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013,” a statement issued on Saturday by the Crown Office, Scotland’s prosecution service reads.
The allegations relate to comments made by Ruth Davidson, a Member of the Scottish Parliament and leader of the Scottish Conservatives, in which she appeared to know the general results of postal votes arising from “sample opening” of ballot boxes.
Postal vote opening sessions are permitted before the formal poll is conducted to verify signatures and dates of birth against records held by the local Returning Officer. Agents for the two campaigns were allowed to monitor these sessions, but it is a criminal offense, punishable with up to a year’s imprisonment if found guilty, to communicate any information witnessed during the sample opening sessions.
In a television interview with the BBC shortly after the formal poll closed Davidson said “we’ve been incredibly encouraged by the results [of the postal vote],” implying the Scottish Conservative leader knew the outcome of the postal votes before the first formal results had been announced.
In another BBC interview just four days before the referendum John McTernan, a former adviser to Tony Blair said, “It’s important to remember that about a fifth of the electorate, that will be about a quarter of the total turn-out, have voted already. They have voted by postal vote. Those postal votes are running very strongly towards ‘no’. There is a whole bank of votes in.”
McTernan told RIA Novosti he had not been contacted by Police adding, “No reason to believe free speech is a crime.”
According to The Herald newspaper, Davidson has been contacted by Police with the paper quoting a Conservative Party source who said there was, “no suggestion she was accused of doing anything wrong at this stage.”
The independence referendum, which took place on September 18, saw a turnout of 84.59 percent. Scotland has chosen to stay in the United Kingdom with 44.7 percent of Scots having voted in support of independence and 55.3 percent having voted against.
‘US won’t decide our policies’ – Sweden on Palestinian state recognition
Washington will not be the one to decide Sweden’s policies, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström said after the US criticized Stockholm’s plans to officially recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.
“It’s not the US that decides our politics,” Wallström said, adding that the new Swedish authorities expected to “get criticism” after their announcement on Palestinian statehood.
Wallström added that Sweden’s new authorities expected to “get criticism” after their announcement on Palestinian statehood.
However, the minister stressed that Stockholm “will continue the constructive dialogue with the US to explain our motives and reasons for this,” Aftonbladet newspaper reported.
In his first speech before the country’s parliament on Friday, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven promised that Sweden will “recognize the states of Palestine.”
READ MORE: Sweden to become first EU country to officially recognize State of Palestine
He added that the conflict with Israel “can only be solved with a two-state solution, negotiated in accordance with international law.”
If the initiative is approved by parliament, Sweden will become the first EU member to recognize Palestine as an independent state.
But Sweden’s plans were not welcomed by the US, Israel’s top ally, which warned the Scandinavians against rushing into things.
“We believe international recognition of a Palestinian state is premature,” US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said. “We certainly support Palestinian statehood, but it can only come through a negotiated outcome, a resolution of final status issues and mutual recognitions by both parties.”
She added that Israel and Palestine must be the ones “to agree on the terms on how they live in the future two states, living side-by-side.”
The Social Democrats gained power in Sweden during the general election in September, following eight years of conservative rule.
Prime Minister Lofven also promised to adjust Sweden’s foreign policy, which would include the country giving up on its aspirations to join NATO.
The Palestinian Authority is aiming to establish an independent state in the territories of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem serving as the capital.
Israel captured both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip during the Six Day War in 1967.
East Jerusalem was later annexed as part of Israel’s indivisible capital, though this move has never been recognized internationally. Israel is also actively building settlements in the West Bank which are considered illegal by the UN.
Israel launched a 50-day military operation in the densely populated Gaza area this summer, which saw over 2,100 Palestinians – mainly civilians – killed and some 18,000 homes destroyed.
Looting Operation: Corporate Elite Divvies up Detroit as Bankruptcy Plan Confirmation Looms
As the Detroit bankruptcy moves into its final stage, it becomes ever more clear that the corporate-financial oligarchy is implementing the wholesale privatization of an entire US city.
With the full backing of a federal court acting on behalf of powerful corporate and financial interests, a cabal of capitalist politicians and legal and financial bagmen are looting virtually all of Detroit’s basic public infrastructure—including street lights, garbage collection, the water and sewerage department, as well as the city’s world class art museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).
The last portion of the bankruptcy follows the crafting of a “grand bargain” supported by the major creditors and the unions, along with a deal with one of the main bond insurers, Syncora. Last month, the political establishment in Detroit and Michigan agreed to another arrangement to keep Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr in power until after the bankruptcy is completed, followed by a transfer of control to Mayor Mike Duggan and the City Council. The city will be overseen by a new Financial Review Commission (FRC), which will retain many of the powers now held by Orr.
With these measures in place, the ruling class is moving forward with parceling out Detroit into private fiefdoms allotted to individual billionaires and corporations, while entire sections of the city will be shut down or cut off from basic services.
The conspiring of the city’s ruling class was spelled out in a column published Thursday in the Detroit Free Press by Tom Walsh, “Detroit after bankruptcy: now comes the hard part.” After affirming that, “there’s little doubt” that Rhodes will confirm Orr’s “plan of adjustment,” Walsh describes Orr and investment banker Kenneth Buckfire as temporary hired guns to oversee the transformation of Detroit.
“Think of Orr, Detroit’s outgoing emergency manager, and Buckfire, president of restructuring firm Miller Buckfire, as the outside mercenaries—er, professionals—hired to swoop into Detroit, restore order and achieve specific objectives,” Walsh writes.
Proclaiming that Mayor Duggan “won’t have enough money left in the kitty” once the bankruptcy is complete, Walsh calls for a fully privatized “revival” of Detroit.
Walsh gives tribute to the city’s leading robber barons for organizing “private investment on a massive scale.” He writes, “The encouraging bursts of revival in Midtown and downtown Detroit during the early years of the 21st Century have been driven largely by a dogged band of entrepreneurial corporate chiefs working in tandem with big philanthropic foundations such as Kresge, Ford, Hudson-Webber and others.”
“[Dan] Gilbert, the head of Quicken Loans and Rock Ventures, has bought more than 60 Detroit properties, moved more than 12,000 workers into the city and is a major force in anti-blight efforts. [Roger] Penske led the Super Bowl committee, brought auto racing back to Belle Isle and donated the Clean Downtown truck fleet. The Ilitch family is leading a $650-million arena and entertainment district project as an encore to its earlier renovation of the Fox Theatre and building Comerica Park. Those business groups, along with Henry Ford Health and the Detroit Medical Center, are teaming with the Rapson-led Kresge Foundation and other donors on the M-1 Rail streetcar lines,” Walsh notes.
Walsh concludes that “private sector investment” is the “key to the renewal of Detroit,” and that “only a small part of that investment will come from public funds.”
These plans were elaborated in bankruptcy court testimony on Thursday and Friday, including from Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, who declared that the bankruptcy plan constitutes “yet another renaissance.”
Asked by Rhodes about the purpose of the Financial Review Commission, Orr gave a response which clearly illustrated the anti-democratic character of the institution. He said that the body would “provide a level of oversight that can be flexible according to the discretion of the commission itself.” In other words, the FRC will determine for itself the appropriate level of involvement in managing the city’s finances, overturning contracts and imposing austerity measures.
Speaking on the Syncora development agreement, which transfers millions of dollars worth of credits and city assets to the bond insurer, Orr acknowledged that the deal will “intensify and broaden the relationship between Syncora and the city.”
Orr’s comments on the Syncora deal highlight the fact that, through the bankruptcy, the city will become a hunting ground for rapacious corporate and financial raiders. Last year the city gave Syncora partial control over the Windsor tunnel to extricate itself from the toxic “swaps deal,” which bled hundreds of millions from Detroit’s budget. Syncora, having profited from the illegal swaps scheme, is being made a first line stakeholder in the future of Detroit.
James Doak of Miller Buckfire gave similar testimony Friday, saying that Syncora “has become a long-term business institution in downtown Detroit,” and that the success of Syncora was “very much linked to the revitalization and economic activity of the downtown area.”
Rhodes asked, “Do you have a sense as to how that relationship will be monitored and executed on the city’s side of it?” Orr responded, “I’m hopeful that the marriage will be better than the courtship,” making an ironic reference to Syncora’s parasitic relationship to the city under the swaps deal.
Orr testified that future revenues will go primarily to the banks. “We will use revenues to pay debt and provide adequate services—not gold-plated or platinum,” Orr said, reassuring the ruling class that the city has no intention of investing in providing services for the broad mass of the population.
Another billionaire and reputed Detroit “booster” (on account of his promotion of corporate-funded development in the city), Roger Penske, also gave testimony Friday. Penske is contributing millions of his own funds to the bankruptcy plan, including some $10 million to the “grand bargain” and millions toward the purchase of 100 new police squad cars. Penske is also contributing money to the M1 rail project, frequently touted in the media as a model for a privately planned and funded transit system.
Penske gave his full support to the bankruptcy plan, saying that through the bankruptcy “a cleansing effect can take place.”
Similar comments from former presidential candidate Mitt Romney circulated in the media Friday underscored that such views are common currency throughout the entire US political and corporate establishment. Romney declared his support for the bankruptcy, saying that “dramatic steps” are necessary “when a municipality begins to circle the drain.” The bankruptcy has also received the full support of the Obama administration, which sees it as a model for other cities throughout the county.
The corrupt dealings surrounding the courtroom are also revealed in ongoing discussions with the Financial Guaranty Insurance Corporation (FGIC), another major insurer. FGIC is set to lose some 95 percent of the $1.1 billion it committed to insuring Detroit’s bondholders. Anonymous sources cited by the Detroit News state that FGIC is offering to drop its opposition to the bankruptcy plan in exchange for some portion of a “$123 million bankruptcy reserve fund, city-owned real estate, including riverfront property east of the Renaissance Center, and a 300-space municipal parking garage on Riopelle Street.”
The bankruptcy is, in substance, a vast looting operation conducted through the mechanism of the bankruptcy courts.
The US Government is Targeting Nonviolent Activists: Judge Refuses to Dismiss “Baseless” Charges Against Palestinian-American
“US federal government is intentionally targeting and prosecuting Arab-American citizens”
Rasmea Odeh had her first hearing in open court on Thursday in front of the new judge who will preside over her trial on immigration fraud charges scheduled for next month.
As the Palestinian-American community leader and her lawyers sat at the defense table, supporters, many of whom had made the five-hour drive from Chicago, packed the Detroit federal courtroom.
Odeh had hoped that Judge Gershwin Drain would rule favorably on a defense motion to dismiss the charges against her, but the judge declined to do so, ensuring that the trial will go forward.
Illegal fruit
Michael Deutsch, Odeh’s lead attorney, argued that the indictment of Odeh was the “fruit of an illegal investigation” by the government targeting the Arab American Action Network (AAAN), the Chicago community organization at which Odeh is associate director.
Last October, Odeh was arrested and indicted for allegedly lying on her US citizenship application a decade ago by failing to disclose her conviction in an Israeli military court for allegedly participating in two bombings in Jerusalem in 1969.
Odeh has pleaded not guilty to the US immigration fraud charge and says the Israeli convictions were obtained in the unfair Israeli military court system based entirely on a confession extracted through prolonged, brutal torture including sexual assault.
If convicted Odeh could face prison time, as well as being stripped of her US citizenship and deported.
Deutsch told the judge that Odeh was selectively investigated because of her protected First Amendment activities educating people about the situation in Palestine, and that it was based on evidence from the four-year-old investigation of the “Anti-War 23.”
In 2010, US authorities raided the homes of several anti-war activists, including Hatem Abudayyeh, AAAN’s director, and summoned two dozen activists before a federal grand jury.
Deutsch said the investigation had been a “fishing expedition” – none of those summoned to the grand jury testified. After four years no one had been charged with any crime and all the papers and property seized in the raid have now been returned.
“As far as we know, there is no ongoing investigation,” Deutsch told the court.
Deutsch argued that US authorities in Chicago had nonetheless passed information from the investigation on to federal prosecutors in Michigan, who indicted Odeh.
Government prosecutor Jonathan Tukel told the judge that Odeh’s attorneys had not shown evidence that their client had been singled out.
But the judge also denied Deutsch’s request to compel US attorneys in Chicago and Detroit to reveal their communications over the matter to the defense.
Speaking to reporters and supporters after the hearing, Deutsch expressed disappointment that the judge had allowed only ten minutes for oral arguments.
However, he said that he was not surprised that the judge declined to dismiss the charges “because the law is very restrictive on that.”
“I just wanted him [the judge] to hear about the history and about the context of this case.”
(Deutsch can be seen commenting on the hearing in the video at the top of the post).
This week the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) added its voice to the calls on the US to drop the charges.
In a letter to US Attorney General Eric Holder, ADC called the charges against Odeh “baseless,” and said that the case “plays into the belief and perception that the US federal government is intentionally targeting and prosecuting Arab American citizens.”
ADC is “outraged that the federal law enforcement agencies continue to waste resources by targeting nonviolent social activists such as Ms. Odeh, but have yet to bring charges against the Israeli suspects in the terrorist attack that killed Palestinian-American Alex Odeh in 1985,” the letter adds (Odeh was killed by a bomb left at the ADC office which he ran in Santa Ana, California).
Torture expert
Judge Drain did not issue a ruling on a second motion – a defense request to allow Mary Fabri, an expert on torture, to testify in the trial.
Fabri, a clinical psychologist at the world-renowned Kovler Center, already submitted an affidavit on 18 July detailing Odeh’s torture and subsequent post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Deutsch argued that Fabri’s testimony would provide the jury with crucial information about the long-term impact of Odeh’s torture that would help them to judge her state of mind when she allegedly failed to disclose the military court conviction in her citizenship application.
“This is at the heart of our defense,” Deutsch told the court. “The expert should be allowed to testify, and the jury should decide what it means.”
Drain’s ruling, which he promised within a week, will hinge on his reading of whether the law requires that a person had a “specific intent” to defraud the government at the time of their alleged crime.
Defense attorney Jim Fennerty told the court that the US State Department had handed over dozens of boxes of records the defense had been seeking, which a defense researcher was currently sorting.
Odeh’s lawyers believe the records could shed light on what the US government knew about the torture of Odeh, her father and others after their arrests by Israeli authorities.
Another hearing is scheduled for 21 October, with the start of the trial set for 4 November.
Rally and police harassment
As on previous occasions, Odeh’s supporters rallied outside the US Courthouse on Detroit’s Lafayette Street before and after her hearing.
Sarah Martin, one of the Anti-War 23 who had traveled from Minneapolis, Minnesota, told supporters that solidarity rallies were being held simultaneously in Minneapolis, San Jose, California and Tampa, Florida, as hundreds of people telephoned prosecutors urging them to drop the charges.
Since a hearing in September, some officers of the Department of Homeland Security police who protect federal facilities have taken a more aggressive stance toward the rallies.
Early on Thursday morning, this writer was briefly questioned by one officer for taking this photo of the courthouse, an entirely legal activity.
The incident was reported to National Lawyers Guild legal observers present on the scene. After the hearing, Muhammad Sankari, a member of the national Rasmea Defense Committee, was told by police that he could not lead chants with a bullhorn on the sidewalk in front of the building.
He continued to lead chants from across the street. There is no sign that such petty harassment will deter Odeh’s supporters. “We obviously believe that justice was not served today. Too many of our leaders, like Rasmea, are being targeted by the Justice Department for their activism in support of Palestinian liberation,” Sankari said in a press release from the Rasmea Defense Committee. “This case is clearly going to be an indictment of Israel and its brutal policies. We will continue to make that argument as we work to get the charges dropped,” Sankari added.
Students, Teachers Turn Out in Force Against Censorship of History
Several hundred students, community members, and educators packed a Jefferson County Board of Education meeting in suburban Denver on Thursday night, lambasting the conservative-majority board’s proposal to censor the district’s history curriculum.
The proposal—to establish a committee that would review course materials to ensure they promote patriotism and avoid encouragement of “civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law”—was the catalyst for two weeks of student walk-outs and teacher ‘sick-outs,’ the latter of which closed several high schools on two days in September.
Since September 19, thousands of high-schoolers have taken to the streets with signs reading, “How will we learn from our mistakes if you don’t teach us about them?” and “Keep your politics out of my education.”
They were similarly vocal during a two-hour public comment period Thursday evening. The Denver Post reports:
Students were first to take to the microphone. Many decried board president Ken Witt’s characterization of the students as “pawns” of teachers and their union after thousands walked out of class over the last couple of weeks to protest the proposed committee.
“We find it insulting that you say that we are pawns of anyone else,” said Chatfield High senior Ashlyn Maher. “It is our education that is at stake.”
Two students from Standley Lake High presented the board with boxes filled with 40,000 signatures gathered online from people opposed to the curriculum committee concept.
While board member Julie Williams, who has cited the Texas Board of Education as a model, refused to recall the proposal entirely, the protests appeared to have brought about a partial victory.
Early Thursday morning, in advance of the board meeting, superintendent Dan McMinimee sent a letter (pdf) to board members proposing a compromise: rather than establish a new committee, McMinimee suggested reorganizing existing curriculum review groups in the district to involve more student, teacher, and community voices.
That compromise proposal—stripped of the controversial section about patriotism and civil disorder—was successful Thursday night. But not everyone viewed it as a win.
According to the Associated Press:
As the board voted 3-2 Thursday night to expand the membership on two existing curriculum review committees to include students, parents and administrators, some in the audience yelled “resign” and “recall, recall.”
The two women on the board who oppose the panel’s conservative majority held their heads in their hands after losing a bid to delay the vote so they could have more time to study the plan.
Many students and parents remain dissatisfied with the board’s actions.
“Last night, Witt, Newkirk, and Williams bought some time,” an anonymous blogger wrote at the highly critical JeffCo Board Watch site, referring to the three conservative school board members. “Time, they hope, for the furor to die down. Time, they hope, for the press to go away. Time, they hope, for you to forget the fact that they want the ability to indoctrinate our children.”
JeffCo Board Watch is calling for community members to join and help build a network that would monitor the board and eventually launch a recall effort.
JeffCo parents were planning additional protests on Friday. According to a local ABC News affiliate, “The parent organizing the protest said… it was against this ‘board majority—who time and time again—refuses to listen to their constituents and disrespects students/parents/teachers. These board members should believe in the institution they were elected to represent—clearly they don’t.'”
Indeed, many have observed that this fight is about much more than curriculum changes.
“The controversy over a history curriculum in Colorado is an argument over a very much bigger issue,” public education expert Jeff Bryant wrote Thursday at the Education Opportunity Network blog. “It’s about how we’re treating our nation’s youngest citizens with a substandard form of education that emphasizes fiscal efficiency over learning opportunity and standardization over individual needs and interests. And it’s about how we treat students as learners, imposing education as something done to them rather than with them.”
Netanyahu: White House Criticism Un-American
“I was baffled by this statement, because it doesn’t reflect American values. What we’re being criticized for is that some Jewish residents of Jerusalem bought apartments legally from Arabs in a predominantly Arab neighborhood, and this is seen as a terrible thing.”
“It’s against the American values. And it doesn’t bode well for peace,” he said. “The idea that we’d have this ethnic purification as a condition for peace, I think it’s anti-peace.”
Last week, an ultranationalist Jewish group said dozens of settlers would move into six apartment buildings purchased in the heart of a predominantly Arab neighborhood of east Jerusalem.
The international community, including the United States, does not recognize Israel’s annexation of the area and considers construction there to be illegitimate settlement activity.
But Netanyahu also said he is feeling “quite good” about his relationship with Obama.
“I don’t want to sound like an old married couple, but the president said that he’s had more meetings with me than with any other foreign leader,” Netanyahu said. “I think we have a relationship of mutual respect and mutual appreciation.”
The White House declined comment.

Former General David Petraeus and former World Bank head Robert Zoellick are leading the Council on Foreign Relation’s latest push for an ‘integrated’ North America.
Today, these men are leaders of predatory global finance: Petraeus now heads KKR Global, the leveraged buyout firm, while Zoellick is a senior advisor to Goldman Sachs International. Both men were also in attendance at the secretive 2014 Bilderberg conference .
Petraeus and Zoellick are the co-chairs of the CFR’s North America: Time for a New Focus , a globalism blueprint they claim carries an “integration and sovereignty” approach that somehow meaningfully differs from the EU’s ‘shared sovereignty’.
According to Robert Zoellick, North America can become can be a “new growth market” under integration, rife with exploitable opportunities through a ‘doubling down’ of NAFTA-style policies that they expect 2016 presidential candidates to pursue.
Zoellick explicitly stated, “I hope that this report will provide an agenda for both [U.S. political] parties in the presidential elections in 2016.”
Hillary Clinton, for one, has already admitted that her orders are issued at the Council on Foreign Relations, while Jeb Bush, also a prospective candidate in 2016 authored a CFR report on immigration reform and is brother to the president who founded the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, based on CFR blueprints for Building a North American Community .
Under the CFR’s vision, North America would focus on U.S. markets “in energy, robotics, biotech, software, and big data” and combine with Canada’s developed economy and natural resources and ‘reforms’ in Mexico that have helped ‘harmonize’ it with the U.S. banker-led vision for the continent.
The CFR report claims that: “The development and implementation of a strategy for U.S. economic, energy, security, environmental, and societal cooperation with its two neighbors can strengthen the United States at home and enhance its influence abroad.”
There is a particular focus on energy, with emphasis on boosted production expected from the Keystone pipeline, hugely expanded shale gas fracking operations and new markets for liquid natural gas. Another CFR report this month is The Shale Gas and Tight Oil Boom: U.S. States’ Economic Gains and Vulnerabilities , focusing on a predicted shift away from foreign oil dependence – as the dollar fades and its petrodollar privilege declines with it.
“The report recommends expanding the [U.S.] electricity grid with Mexico, which could provide lower cost electricity because of lower cost natural gas. This support would show the Mexican public the benefits of reform.”
[…]
The United States can also do more to capture the full benefits of energy innovation. For example, the report recommends removing legal restrictions on exports of oil and liquid natural gas, which is important if the U.S. expects to draw continued energy investment, because investors need to receive a competitive world price for their products. The report identifies problems with infrastructure, such as the electricity grid or pipelines. In the case of pipelines, we note that Central America, a nearby region of fragility, has very high energy prices, and the eventual extension of natural gas pipelines and supplies to the region could support Central American democracy and growth.
The report notes that many of the gains of energy so far have been at the exploration and production stages. To truly capture the second stage—dependent on the use of lower priced energy—the three countries need to create the regulatory conditions for greater capital investment. When companies have to make a big capital investment, they need regulatory clarity with regard to topics such as safety, conservation, methane capture, and plans to deal with carbon. All three countries can be more competitive with better and more integrated energy policies. Also, we recommend, in particular, that the XL Pipeline should be approved.
The report also continuesthe trend of pushing for immigration opening erasing borders to a globalized labor force, migrant workers, foreign consumer goods, service and finance and, of course, “harmonized policies” wherever possible.
Media figures like Jerome Corsi and Lou Dobbs led the charge in exposing the global-corporate merger and criticizing the blackout in coverage of the events, with most of the corporate media eerily silent about these tectonic events on the North American continent.
Moreover, this North American merger joins the larger chorus of instituting global governance that has already sung loudly in the EU, and more softly in the African Union and various formative stages of unions Pacific, Latin/Pan-America and other global unions.
As Bilderberg investigative reporters Jim Tucker and Daniel Estulin have noted, the European Union was the result of a 50-year project launched as a major component of the Bilderberg meetings themselves, founded in 1954.
The insider connections of the European and American banking, political and industrial powers fostered a series of benchmarks to bind the continent together through progressive agreements to integrate first through the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Common Market and then various subsequent treaties before the European Union became a formal – and binding – institution.
Interestingly, Putin just signed a Russo-centric Eurasian Economic Unionagreement for his corner of the world – complementing the Russian-ledcreation of the BRICS development bank , widely seen as a landmark move in shattering the petrodollar paradigm, yet clearly still another BRIC in the wallof the new world order global governance project.
The U.S. has also been pushing two important, but lesser known agreements to bind the world under Anglo-centric trading terms. The secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership – to encompass the Asia-Pacific sphere (save China) – has been under negotiation for the last couple of years, though little of it has seen the light of public disclosure, while theTransatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) would economically encircle the the European sector to create a corporate friendly atmosphere for Anglo-centric trade.
Some have blasted it as a trade off of national sovereignty for corporate sovereignty, a just and succinct analysis of the world.
As Pepe Escobar writes :
It should be noted that another vision of the Eurasian economic future is also on the horizon. Washington is attempting to impose a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) on Europe and a similar Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Asia.
Both favor globalizing American corporations and their aim is visibly to impede the ascent of the BRICS economies and the rise of other emerging markets, while solidifying American global economic hegemony.
Gen. Petraeus, Zoellick and company are calling for Canada and Mexico to be included in the TTIP – as they already are with the Trans-Pacific Partnership – in the name of greater North American integration, and for U.S. leaders to focus on globalizing their home turf in the coming period after Obama.

Thailand beach murders: Police defend bizarre public ‘reconstruction’ of slayings by suspects
Two Burmese migrants who have allegedly ‘confessed’ to the crimes have been taken to the beach where Hannah Witheridge and David Miller’s bodies were found
Two Burmese migrants today took part in a chaotic, bizarre reconstruction of how they allegedly killed Brit backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.
Amid extraordinary scenes on a beach in Thailand the men showed little emotion as they demonstrated the method they are alleged to have used to bludgeon the pair.
Wearing flak jackets and motorcycle helmets to protect them from possible attack, the handcuffed duo – identified only as Saw and Wyn – walked on to the sands of Koh Tao island.
One used a long-handled dustpan to show how he allegedly rained blows on Hannah with a hoe. Police say the pair have signed confessions to the killings.
And they claim DNA links both men to 23-year-old Hannah who was raped.
Today’s re-enactment was greeted with dismay around the world.
A tourist was chosen to play 24-year-old David while a female TV journalist took the role of Hannah.
As well as the media, hundreds of locals came to watch.
Tourists lined up to film the event and one couple had to be told not to cross police lines. Illegal immigrants Saw and Wyn, both 21, worked in a local bar. Another man, known only as Mau, is also being questioned.
On the night of the killing all three were on the beach, smoking and singing while one played the guitar.
David and Hannah, who had just met, had been drinking in a nearby bar.
The three men watched as the couple walked past and then stopped behind rocks.
Police say both men then took turns raping Hannah while alternately smoking. Then Wyn allegedly smashed her head repeatedly with the same hoe which he threw away. It was found next morning.
Thailand’s national police chief, Gen Somyot Poompanmoung, said Saw and Wyn will now face murder, rape and theft charges.
He claimed: “These two suspects are the men who committed the crime.
“We brought them back to the beach so they could show us what they did.
“We also discovered one of them had a mobile phone of one of the victims and the motorbikes they used that night.”
Gen Poompanmoung said DNA results, CCTV footage and other evidence confirmed the men’s confessions that they had raped and killed Hannah and murdered David. Both are expected to appear in court on the mainland early next week.
He added: “We have also received useful information from the locals.”
Koh Tao’s tourist trade has been badly hit since the horrific murders on September 15.
Jaktip Chaijinda, deputy head of national police, said a quick resolution of the case would result in a speedy recovery of tourist numbers.
He went on: “Today the case should be finished. We want to clear it up as soon as possible so our tourist industry can bounce back.”
Koh Tao mayor Chaiyant Thurasakul said locals were relieved by the arrests and called for all foreign workers on the island be registered.
Regional tourist boss Wannee Thaipanit said she thought the island would bounce back but the authorities must improve lighting, add more surveillance cameras and launch a promotion campaign to restore confidence.
“The issue of tourist security is very important to us.”
Tonight the Burmese community on Koh Tao claimed three close friends of the suspects were beaten and tortured by Thai police to implicate Saw, Wyn and third man Mau.
Some were said to have had boiling water poured on them. Community leaders also insisted the suspects were innocent.
Their statement was backed by Aung Kyaw, president of the Myanmar Migrant Labour Association in Thailand, who said: “We do not believe they did it.”
His statement read: “Ethnic migrant workers living and working on Koh Tao irregularly (without documents) were accosted by a group of Thai police officers who tried to catch them when they were peacefully playing cane ball. Six among the nine migrants accosted trying to run away were caught.
“Another three were able to run away and escape arrest.
Today’s reconstruction took place on the same day as family and friends gathered for David’s private funeral on his home island of Jersey.
The popular former Leeds University student had only just met Hannah, from Hemsby, Norfolk.
Post-mortem examinations revealed University of East Anglia graduate Hannah died from head wounds while David was killed by severe blows to the head and drowning.
A full inquest will be held in the UK on January 6.

Massive Land Grabs and Dispossession: Demanding an End to the World Bank’s Morally Bankrupt Development
Washington, D.C. — On October 10, 2014, NGOs, farmers’ groups, and indigenous organizations from across the world are coming together as part of the Our Land Our Business campaign to denounce the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings. The campaign, endorsed by over 235 organizations, will be staging “creative resistance” events at the Bank’s annual meetings in Washington D.C. and nine other cities around the world. The D.C. event is drawing support from a wide range of activist communities, including Occupy groups who will join representatives of impacted communities from Kenya, Mali, and Ethiopia.
“Under the banner #WorldVsBank, this movement is calling for the end of the Doing Business rankings and the new Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture project. They are tools of a pro-corporate, anti-poor, environmentally unsustainable model of development. If the World Bank keeps promoting economic activity that destroys biodiversity and the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, pastoralists, and indigenous communities, they should not have a mandate to exist,” said Alnoor Ladha of /The Rules.
The World Bank’s lending to developing countries reached $35 billion in 2012. The Doing Business rankings play a critical role in determining what form of economic development takes place around the world. According to the World Bank’s own literature, they are “an incomparable catalyst for business reforms initiatives.” In practice, this has meant liberalizing developing country economies so that large-scale land investment and western corporations can move in unimpeded. The casualties are the smallholder famers and providers who currently feed 80% of the developing world but who are all too often rendered invisible or actively dispossessed.
“Working for the World Bank’s Social Fund in Gambella, I protested the widespread coercion and forced relocation of people. Today I live in political exile in Kenya. I am protesting the World Bank on October 10 because I know firsthand how their policies negatively impact communities,” said Okok Ojulu who will share his experiences at actions planned in D.C.
To coincide with the #WorldVsBank mobilization, the Oakland Institute, one of the world’s leading think tanks on land issues, is releasing a new study tackling the Bank’s approach to land, agriculture, and development, Unfolding Truth: Dismantling the World Bank’s Myths on Agriculture and Development. In addition, the Institute will also release six new country fact sheets that expose the reforms promoted by the World Bank in Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Laos, Cambodia, and Uruguay. In each country, the Bank’s policies have served as a catalyst for massive land grabs, dispossession, and forced eviction of countless small-scale farmers.
“If you look behind many of the recent land grabs, you will find World Bank policies that enable investors to come in with projects that promise benefits to communities but don’t follow through. We can keep going after each corporation and investment group but it would be more effective if the World Bank stopped using their immense political and financial power to pave the way for what has become the systematic exploitation of land and people,” said Anuradha Mittal of the Oakland Institute.
Our Land Our Business is also launching the world’s first transnational “missed call” campaign—uniting a call-to-action across multiple countries. The idea is to make a call to a local phone number; the mobile number is then registered as an expression of support, then supporters receive free text messages to get further involved (e.g. showing up at a creative resistance). In parts of the world where first-generation mobile phones are ubiquitous but computers and the Internet are costly and inaccessible, this is a new powerful tool for mass engagement in political action.
On October 10, a street mobilization featuring speakers and artists will take place at 4pm in Rawlins Park, Washington D.C. This is followed by further action on October 11 when activists and concerned citizens from around the world will again gather outside the World Bank at 11am to protest the Bank’s attempt to dismantle critical protections for people and the planet that are currently enshrined in its operational policies. These changes come at a time when the Bank is making plans to scale up its lending to the private sector and return to the sort of risky mega-projects that characterized its now-discredited structural adjustment programs in the 1980s.
The October 10 – 11 actions send a message to the Bank that the world won’t stand for its exploitive practices.

The Resurrection of Gary Webb: Will Hollywood Give Journalist Last Word Against CIA’s Media Apologists?
by Jeff Cohen
It’s been almost a decade since once-luminous investigative journalist Gary Webb extinguished his own life. But the 1996 series (which was accompanied by unprecedented online documentation) also sparked one of the most ferocious media assaults ever on an individual reporter – a less-than-honest backlash against Webb by elite newspapers that had long ignored or suppressed evidence of CIA/Contra/cocaine connections.
It’s been 18 years since Webb’s “Dark Alliance” series in the San Jose Mercury News exploded across a new medium – the Internet – and definitively linked crack cocaine in Los Angeles and elsewhere to drug traffickers allied with the CIA’s rightwing Contra army in Nicaragua. Webb’s revelations sparked anger across the country, especially in black communities.
The assault by the Washington Post, New York Times and Los Angeles Times drove Webb out of the newspaper business, and ultimately to his death.
Beginning this Friday, the ghost of Gary Webb will haunt his tormenters from movie screens across the country, with the opening of the dramatic film “Kill the Messenger” – based partly on Webb’s 1998 “Dark Alliance” book.
The movie dramatizes Webb’s investigation of Contra-allied Nicaraguan cocaine traffickers Norwin Meneses and Danilo Blandon (whose drug activities were apparently protected for reasons of U.S. “national security”) and their connection to L.A.’s biggest crack dealer, “Freeway” Ricky Ross.
The original “Dark Alliance” series was powerful in naming names, backed by court documents. Webb added specifics and personalities to the story of Contra drug trafficking first broken by Associated Press in 1985 (ignored by major newspapers) and then expanded in 1989 by John Kerry’s Senate subcommittee report which found that Contra drug dealing was tolerated in the U.S. frenzy to overthrow Nicaragua’s leftwing Sandinista government. Kerry’s work was ignored or attacked in big media — Newsweek labeled him a “randy conspiracy buff.”
There were some flaws and overstatements in the Webb series, mostly in editing and presentation; a controversial graphic had a crack smoker embedded in the CIA seal. But in light of history – and much smoke has cleared since 1996 – Webb’s series stands up far better as journalism than the hatchet jobs from the three establishment newspapers.
Don’t take my word for it. A player in the backlash against Webb was Jesse Katz, one of 17 reporters assigned by L.A. Times editors to produce a three-day, 20,000 word takedown of “Dark Alliance.” Last year, Katz referred to what his paper did as “kind of a tawdry exercise” which “ruined that reporter’s career” – explaining during a radio interview: “Most of us who were involved in it, I think, would look back on that and say it was overkill. We had this huge team of people at the L.A. Times and kind of piled onto one lone muckraker up in Northern California.”
Katz deserves credit for expressing regrets about the “overkill.”
His role in the backlash was to minimize the importance of Ricky Ross, who received large shipments of cocaine from Contra-funder Blandon. In the wake of Webb’s series, Katz described Ross as just one of many “interchangeable characters” in the crack deluge, “dwarfed” by other dealers.
But 20 months before Webb’s series – before the public knew of any Contra (or CIA) link to Ross’ cocaine supply – Katz had written quite the opposite in an L.A. Times profile of Ross: “If there was a criminal mastermind behind crack’s decade-long reign, if there was one outlaw capitalist most responsible for flooding Los Angeles’ streets with mass-marketed cocaine, his name was Freeway Rick.” Katz’s piece referred to Ross as “South-Central’s first millionaire crack lord” and was headlined: “Deposed King of Crack.”
One of the more absurd aspects of the backlash against Webb – prominent in the Washington Post and elsewhere — was criticism over his labeling of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN), a Contra army supported by Blandon and Meneses, as “the CIA’s army.” As I wrote in an obituary when Webb died: “By all accounts, including those of Contra leaders, the CIA set up the group, selected its leaders and paid their salaries, and directed its day-to-day battlefield strategies.” The CIA also supervised the FDN’s day-to-day propaganda in U.S. media.
It was as much “the CIA’s army” as the force that invaded Cuba at the Bay of Pigs in 1961.
Just weeks ago, new light was shed on this old puzzle with the release of a remarkable CIA internal report – which shows that “the CIA’s army” phrase was one of the Agency’s main complaints about Webb’s series. As silly as the CIA’s complaint was, it received serious echo in friendly newspapers. In fact, the CIA author of the report seemed to marvel at how compliant major newspapers were in attacking the “Dark Alliance” series, which he attributed to “a ground base of already productive relations with journalists.”
The CIA’s internal report mentioned that soon after the “Dark Alliance” series was published, “one major news affiliate, after speaking with a CIA media spokesperson, decided not to run the story.” When the Washington Post attack on Webb appeared, the CIA aggressively circulated it to other journalists and to “former Agency officials, who were themselves representing the Agency in interviews with the media.”
A disturbing feature of the triple-barreled (Washington Post/NY Times/LA Times) backlash against Webb was how readily elite journalists accepted the denials from the CIA – and from unnamed “former senior CIA officials” – of any knowledge of Contra cocaine trafficking. Media critic Norman Solomon noted that the first New York Times piece on Webb’s series lacked “any suggestion that the CIA might be a dubious touchstone for veracity.”
It’s worth remembering that the New York Times and Washington Post editorially endorsed military aid to the human rights-abusing Contras – a position almost as embarrassing now as their faulty coverage in the run-up to the Iraq invasion.
The unfolding of history can be helpful in settling disputes – and it has proved kinder to Webb than eagerly gullible establishment newspapers. “Dark Alliance” and the public uproar over the series in black communities and elsewhere pressured the CIA to order a review of Contra cocaine links by CIA Inspector General Frederick Hitz. Although barely covered by the big three dailies, Hitz’s final volume (published in October 1998) providedsignificant vindication of Webb.
Journalist Robert Parry, a Webb supporter who broke the Contra cocaine story in 1985 while at A.P., concluded that Hitz “not only confirmed many of the longstanding allegations about Contra-cocaine trafficking but revealed that the CIA and the Reagan administration knew much more about the criminal activity.” In the 1998 volume, “Hitz identified more than 50 Contras and Contra-related entities implicated in the drug trade. He also detailed how the Reagan administration had protected these drug operations and frustrated federal investigations throughout the 1980s.”
Thanks to the magic of the silver screen, the specter of Gary Webb (brought to life by actor Jeremy Renner) will now be vexing the media heavyweights who savaged him. The script for “Kill the Messenger” – based on Webb’s book and Nick Schou’s “Kill the Messenger” – was written by Peter Landesman, a former investigative writer himself.
In comments last week to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Landesman offered explanations of the triple attack on Webb’s series: “Each one of the papers did it for a different reason. The L.A. Times had an envious, jealous reaction of being scooped in their own territory . . . The Washington Post had a very strong quid pro quo relationship with the CIA . . . The New York Times approach was more professional arrogance.”
And there’s a unifying factor: All three newspapers had avoided the CIA/Contra/cocaine story in the 1980s – they seemed to be punishing Webb for reviving it in 1996.
With “Kill the Messenger” opening in hundreds of theaters, is it possible Gary Webb will get the last word after all?
