Summers are often dry across Portugal; however, most of the nation has received no rainfall so far in August.
In fact, dating back to the end of June, northern Portugal has only received roughly 10 percent of their normal precipitation.
This long stretch of dry weather, combined with unseasonable warmth and some gusty winds, has resulted in wildfires across northern and central parts of the nation.
Since the onset of the wildfires this year, there have been five confirmed fatalities with four more emergency workers missing, according to Euronews.

Latest reports indicate at least 2,000 firefighters are actively working to control a number of fires across the region.
The fires have been so bad that Portugal began seeking aid from Spain and France to battle the blazes.
Jorge Dias, spokesman for Portugal’s National Civil Protection Authority, said Friday that France and Spain have each sent three Canadair planes designed for dropping water on wildfires, but more are needed.

Portugal’s Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests has said that more than 75,000 acres have burned across the country so far this year.
Unfortunately, dry and hot weather is expected to prevail through next Tuesday, providing little aid to firefighters battling the blazes.
Cooler weather and even perhaps some rainfall will be possible during the second half of next week as a cold front finally pushes into northern Portugal.

This year is another horrible 'season' of fires here in Portugal. Of course these fires are intentionally made. After much observation this past month I've noticed that just a day or two before the fires begin (and begin again) that there is a chem-trail deployed and the following day it clouds-up and only offers a very strange mist and very light rain….but the following day the fires begin to burn (again). It seems as that there is an burning catalyst in the chemtrail fall out. Twice now I've witnessed this pattern and the fires began to burn just a day later…
Track any evidence for Blaine County Idaho
Fires…..and now uncommon lightening storms
I suspect it’s all the same demented groups/ideologies/corporate-fascist entities that are doing this. Human lives, the lives of trees, animals, the health of the air, water and life in general mean nothing whatsoever to whatever these “people” are.
I’ve just returned from a short journey to the northern California coast where people are remarking how “this place has never been this dry, the rivers so low etc..”. When I respond by just pointing out the non-natural clouds appearing out of the trailing edges of mid to high altitude aircraft and mention as kindly as I can that there’s the reason, I’m usually met with the standard “Oh that’s bullshit. Why would anyone even think of doing something like that…?” and the like.
It seems that the dumbing of america, if not the world is actually working with astounding success. I mentioned to some park rangers in Yosemite Park last spring to be ready for one hell of a fire season. After explaining why I thought this would be they answered with “well was a wet winter so far though there hasn’t been too much snow so we’ll be okay.” How “okay” is 237,341 acres being burned in flames so hot they’re sterilizing the soil?
Like the psy-op of the 9/11 debacle now being blamed on “nano-thermite” and not the directed energy weapons so evidently utilised, the stratospheric aerosol attack is only “just a change in the type of jet-fuels being used” according to a few spin masters.
I hope the legitimate outrage outpaces this disgusting outrage being perpetrated on us all and somehow the awareness of how interconnected all of these atrocities are comes to people’s minds and creates one hell of a response. If it doesn’t happen soon I think we’re all surely f—-d.
Cheers. D

This is terrible, I cannot understand why the USA and UK and all the other countries are allowing this to happen – to think they can play God. But your right about the dovetail element. Its some horrible plan thats been set in motion and it seems no one is prepared to question it, no Government or President will even acknowledge its happening.
A key aspect to the current condition is omission. Key facts, key decisions, key policies are simply omitted from public discourse.
A good example of this are the so-called black ops. These are secret operations that are completely unaccountable to the people. Some pretty convincing work has been done to expose microwave radiation, and its application as a weapon, as one of these programs.
Why the complete blackout of info on geoengineering? Most likely at least part of the answer lies in the fire season. No one with any sense would ever be on board with a program that unleashes this kind of destruction.
The southwest especially has seen epic fire seasons, due in part to the geoengineered drought, but also due to the current policy of intentionally igniting blazes to supposedly stop the original fire. Countless families have lost their homes. In my case, my entire community was destroyed by one of these intentionally ignited blazes.
The drought, and engineered fire is being used to remove rural people, and rural communities from the land-agenda 21 style.
What is particularly important to understand is how geoengineered drought dovetails in with fire policy, corporate profit, and government plans, such as 21.
The bill to the American people, from the forest service, and thus their corporate contractors, for our fire was a reported 39.1 million dollars.
No one else BUT these corporate contractors, even the National Guard, who maintained trained and seasoned firefighters, and state of the art equipment, was allowed by the government to attack the fire.
Yes, innocent people do die as a result of this policy.
I hope the same kind of collusive criminal behavior we find here is not happening to Portugal.
